Back in the early 80's where the scene was rocked by The Ramones (USA) and Sex Pistols (UK), The Misfits showed up with a brand new concept in the punk scene.
It's sound is punk with some east coast punk and hardcore influence in the bands beginning. Rapidly, The Misfits started gaining a very own and personal line.
We can divide The Misfits career in two parts. The first, since the beginning til mid 80's, where Misfits haven't much of sound quality and it sound raw and crude. Great classics emerged, like Skulls, Die,Die my darlings, Where eagles dare, Horror hotel or Teenagers from mars. This period was led by Danzig.
After a long judicial battle post to the band break up, Jerry Only brought back The Misfits in the 90's. The sound was now well record and preety much stronger. The concept of The Misfits horror punk was sharpen to perfection. The bands art work, image, presence and scene was taken to an extreeme, making more fans and bringing back the true misfit and horror punk fans back and happy. Releases: American Psycho and Famous Monsters.
By the time the band's celebrating the 25th aniversary, the bands formation changed again. And Jerry now tours with the punk legends Dez Cadena (Black Flag - Guitar) and Marky Ramone (RAMONES - Drums).
Most punk bands are influenced by social thematics and lyrics, but what makes The Misfits special is that thei're main influence is the 80's horror movies.
So The Misfits developed a hole concept, scene, sound and theme around horror stuff.
Nowaday there are tons os bands using that idea. Mainly Emo/Screamo bands.
The Misfits changed music forever with their horror punk concept
