Hello again, my last tribute mix ( Year of the Kopp by Kopp Is King) received a lot of praise and I feel like it's time for a new one. The link between Jonas Kopp and Token Records is actually quite simple. Months before the actual event I was told by Espen, one of the label heads of Krill Music, that Jonas would perform a liveset at the end of May at Berghain. Immediately I knew that I had to be there, no matter what. I didn't care at all about the artists surrounding him, how could they even match with him?
Then the full line-up was revealed and I still didn't care. "Eh, Token? Only heard a couple of releases, too fast & blunt for my liking." But then Phase - Binary Opposition appeared, charted by Luke Slater, hailed by countless DJs I had been a fan of for quite some time (Dettmann, Developer, Klock, Peter Van Hoesen, Shifted, Jonas Kopp himself…), heard on countless floors on countless nights out (then still without knowing what it was). So I thought "Aight Imma check this whole thing out."
I was blown away. Not only that the two tracks immediately captivated me, they also made me explore the whole discography of Token with all these hidden treasures like Dimitri Andreas - Tiger, Inigo Kennedy - DLR, Sub Space, Nitro and many others. I've been eagerly awaiting every Token release since the beginning of the year and have not regretted buying all of these fantastic records so far. The Token labelnight at Berghain was one of the best nights I've spent there yet with a flawless lineup (Tama Sumo, Jonas Kopp, Phase, Inigo Kennedy, Henning Baer, Kr!z) and it was a pleasure meeting Kr!z and Phase (and of course Jonas :)). This mix features one track off each release on the label thus far, not in achronological order but picking up the pace (one of the things I really love this label for now). All hail Token.
