1. Tiken Jah Fakoly - "Le pays va mal"
Reggae from the Ivory Coast. I've heard this man's name bandied around a lot in recent years, but never had the chance to hear his music. I can see precisely why people like him - there's more than a hint of the great Alpha Blondy, as well as a slight touch of Burning Spear in his vocals. Lovely one-drop guitars and drums and a tasty horn section. Good stuff all round.

2. Hate Eternal - "The Vicious Reign"
Full-speed death metal here, with drumming that probably shouldn't be attempted without medical advice. The vocals are your standard Cookie Monster impression, but the guitars are played very impressively. Solid, but not great.

3. Draconian - "A Scenery of Loss"
Some gothic doom metal here, as can be identified by the thunderclap sounds over which the guitars gradually appear. All nicely atmospheric (I get a "ruined castle" mental image when I listen to this sort of thing), but everyone's done it a million times before. The vocals seem to be delivered through a megaphone in the next room.

4. Diana Krall - "Let's Fall In Love"
Now known as Mrs Elvis Costello, Krall is of course one of the bigger names in jazz singing these days. She's got a nice enough voice, but the performance here seems rather phoned in. She doesn't seem to be making the song her own, put it that way.

5. Bloody Panda - "Fever"
Some experimentally sludgey doom, with lots of feedback and a very slow pace. Admittedly, this is the kind of thing that a lot of bands are doing these days - and doing surprisingly well, despite how difficult it is to pull off. This sounds too "crunchy" for its own good, though.

6. Otesanek - "Oceans"
Something in a more experimental-drone vein here, although it's more doom than drone. This is just weird, rather than being my kind of thing.

7. Hyatari - "Freeform for the Disenfranchised"
Still more drone, although this time a shorter and dronier track. I suspect very strongly that this is just an intro, rather than being anything more serious.

8. Lyricson - "Hypocrite"
French reggae, and it is indeed sung in French but with the distinctive Jamaican cadence to it all. His voice is a bit odd, although it reminds me of someone I've heard before. Catchy little song, too.

9. Anti - "Copyright of the Heart"
Some techno, which was recommended based on the fact that it shares a name with a black metal act. Nothing special here.

10. Cassandra Wilson
And we finish up with another female jazz vocalist. She has a lovely smoky sounding voice, but as with Krall before she just doesn't quite sound as though she's entirely committed to the song.
