Last year...

No, I'm not gonna do another "the best of the 2007". I just wanted to write about what was 2007 in music for me. And I must say it was a rather rich year. I got to know many new bands, many new styles. I've ended up listening to the bands I've been trying not to :P Some of them even became my favs… or at least close to favs…
on the other hand, some of my old time favs have failed me dramatically (yes, I'm talking about you Miss Andrea Corr). but it was a good year… musically speaking. I'll try to mention all the things that count… probably in alphabetical order :P

1. Beirut - got this one from my friend Servantez and it turned out to be pretty good. Especially the latest release. I've always liked folk inspirations (figures) and this time the Balkan ones made quite an impression.

2. Bloc Party - got to know the guys and loved them ever since I heard The Prayer. The latest album was a very well thought step and I'm glad they took it.

3. Chris Cornell - I've always had a soft spot for him… then I got his Unplugged album and i just couldn't help and bought the latest release. I';m actually thankful that he's finished with Audioslave since I only like the first album… and i totally love his solo work.

4. Editors - funny thing is that I got their lates CD when I was madly fascinated by Interpol and it didn't move me, since I was convinced that they were trying so hard to sound like the Interpol guys… but then my friend Llittle fought hard for those guys and she gave me the first CD… and I fell in love - first with the trio Blood, Fall, Sparks and then with the whole album and eventually with the whole band.

5. Hard-Fi - i loved the debiut album and when I heard that they were going to release the second one this year, I was almost sure that they would have problems with the "second album syndrome". But actually they didn't. They made a very good, mature album with lost of great sounds and some fantasic choruses. And very catchy melodies too!

6. Hot Hot Heat - I got to know this band in autumn and I really enjoyed listening to them during my stay in Copenhagen. Especially when the weather was a bit better. They have great lyrics and are fun to listen to while riding a bike. I will surelly keep them around my mp3.

7. Interpol - this was the other band for the time in Copenhagen - the band which music was suitable for the more typical weather - rain and darkness… They were just so perfect for the melancholy of being far away from my friends. Plus the latest record and particularly the song Rest my Chemistry went straight to my top favs!

8. Kaiser Chiefs - the band of the summer exam times. and the band of the summer too. With their new album they've just made me listen to them FINALLY, cause before I would avoid them as much as I could… and now I really don't know why…

9. KT Tunstall - she also had the second album thing in front of her and well I guess I like the first one better, but then on the second one are couple of songs without which my world would be less… just less :P Hats of to the White Bird and Funnyman. She's like one of a very few female artist that didn't disappoint me this year.

10. Maxïmo Park - though I HATE this stupid merge problem that last.fm has with them and when I have a bad day I would just kick somebody's ass for this :P but the band itself is brilliant :D And i was a daft idiot who didn't want to listen to them before :P though I was literally begged to :P
Now I can listen all the time to the Books From Boxes and don't get bored. Amazing.

11. Placebo - i just bumped into Running Up That Hill by an accident and couldn't stop listening to it for couple of days… and then I dug up all the rest of the albums and stayed in that music mood for some time… the best band for autumn depression. they never fail ;)

12. Saybia - when I went to Denmark for this 5 months I knew only two of their "products" - Carlsberg beer and this band. and then they released the album when I was in Copenhagen and it was sooooooo fucking good. The band gets better and better with every release… Musically, vocally, lirically. Now I have two fav things in Denmark when it comes to music - Saybia and the other, less known guys - Ruhan Daisy. Both worth knowing.

13. Supergrass - I could never make myself like the band totally… I liked couple of songs, but not so much. They were "quite nice"… And this year… I don't know - maybe again Copenhagen had this kind of influence on me, but I reached for the Road To Rouen and that just was IT!. It hit me and the guys stayed on my hdd… for good.

14.The Killers - well ARE my fav new band and they will stay on this place for a long time if they keep on doing what they do. the b-side album was a good idea, but the best one was Dire Straits' cover Romeo And Juliett which was not only superb, but also made me get back to the Dire Straits' albums for some time. And as I like these kind of trips… i gotta thank the guys for not only NOT ruining this great song…

15. Tori Amos - she's always in shape, she's always great and she never makes mistakes - music-wise speaking. This year's American Doll Posse is the best proof for it.. I got back to her in december and it took her only two weeks to get to my top 10. Brilliant woman… brilliant music and brilliant lyrics is what she does the best.

Beyond all this there were also some small adventures with soft bands like Umbrellas, Turin Brakes or Death Cab For Cutie which will probably stay around for some time, since I enjoy listening to them. I also experienced a huge comeback of Maroon 5 and a smaller one of Manic Street Preachers and I think it was this year that I've started listening to The Fratellis, but I won't bet my life on it, so I just mention them here - at the end ;)

and oh yeah - the polish band Hey recorded one of the best unplugged album in the history :P

so i guess it was quite a busy year. hopefully the next one will be even busier!
