I love the Dixie Chicks
. I have loved them since I bought their first commerical success album, Wide Open Spaces
. I loved them when Fly
came out and everyone thought Goodbye Earl was making fun of women who are domestically abused. I love them when they took a year off and everyone wondered if they fazed out. I loved them when they came back with Home
and their mature side came out thru more powerful lyrics and drastically improved song writing skills. I stood by them when they said their statement in Europe. Even though at the time I thought Bush was a good man, I stood by them, because I loved their MUSIC. I laughed as people destroyed their cd's, as if they would care. And now, their cd released today, I love them more than ever, their new album is amazing, best ever hands down, and country radio won't play them, but I don't care. They do not need to be played on the radio anymore, they have their devoted fans, that's all they ever need. I'm a Dixie Chicks fanatic and I will love them until they retire. I no longer listen to country music in the levels I did before they decided to silently declare themselves Republican thru not playing the Dixie Chicks b/c of their bush statements 3 years ago. Since the Beatles music has been entwined with politics, but when you hate a band b/c their political views are different from your own, maybe you should try avoiding all music. Green Day, Bruce Springsteen, and others have openly said the president should be impeached. Is it bad to have an opinion and stand by it? And now the Dixie Chicks refuse to apologize, refuse to back down in an effort to mend their wounds with country radio and by doing that, they have gained even more respect by me. It's easy to be a huge pushover in today's society, and believe whatever the news tells you to believe, and to fret over things the media tells you to (bird flu, etc) but the Dixie Chicks show they will not be swayed by a few enraged ex-fans. Let them go listen to their redneck hillbilly beer drinking, cheap cigarette smoking hick music, and the chicks will march the other way, towards lyrical genius being compared to John Lennon and others, selling out venues, and best selling records. They might be falling on country charts, but these chicks are still selling records like mad, a sure tell sign that demand does not influence those charts whatsoever. No matter what they say, Dixie Chicks are still around, and nothing anyone can so, no news reports or angry country music radio stations are going to scare them off. Get over it and move along.
that is all.
