Now this is what I truly call a blast from the past: I was just going through my CDs when I found the case to a CD that I burnt back in 2003. God, do I feel old. It makes me realize how much my taste in music has changed. Here are the songs on the CD:

1. Whenever, Wherever - Shakira
2. Soak Up the Sun - Sheryl Crow
3. Get a Clue - Simon and Milo
4. Nod Ya Head - Will Smith
5. Follow Me - Uncle Kracker
6. Hey Baby - No Doubt
7. Dirrty Pop - N'Sync
8. The Call - The Backstreet Boys
9. I'm Alive - Céline Dion
10. Arms Wide Open - Creed
11. Sugar Rush - Dreemstreet
12. Kids In America - Len
13. In the End - Linkin Park
14. mambo #5 - Lou Bega
15. Take a Bow - Madonna

I never thought I would feel the emotions of confusion, disgust, embarrassment, and nostalgia all at the same time. Ninety-nine percent of the songs on here were either big at the time of their release or products of my then-current interest in my local soft rock radio station...blech. It was clear that my taste was modeled off of whatever my parents, mainly my mother, exposed me to that wasn't from the 60s or 70s and from the kids that I went to school with, 'cause, you know, not having a taste you can call your own is the cool thing to do. I don't like any of these artists anymore and I don't like all but one song: the last one on this list. Take a Bow has a tiny but special-enough place in my heart as a song that was featured in one of the many music videos that I would watch as a toddler. Thinking about it now, I'm pretty sure one of these artists indirectly helped me get into one of my current favorite bands. I remember watching an episode of Behind the Music featuring Creed and one of the people being interviewed mentioned that Scott Stapp was, in a way, similar to Jim Morrison of the Doors. At that point, I thought they were another one of "my parents' bands". Several years later, they're currently the third most played artist/band in my music library. Small world, huh? Well, back to rummaging through my CDs for any more hidden treasures that I may encounter.
