Yeah, kind of like what Death Note did in combining Yoshihisa Hirano's neo classical pieces with Hideki Taniuchi's post-rock score, though I think the Utena series/movie did that kind of combo better. With the latter, it seems as though it was necessary to have both musical styles there, given the imagery and the kind of story the composers were working with.

I've often considered Mitsumune and Seazer's contributions to the OST to be separate components, though in their own way, they do work together hand-in-hand. I could never imagine Mitsumune's orchestral sweeps providing the score to the duel sequences, for example. Seazer's abstract lyrics and the raw instrumentation of his music fit the otherwise metaphysical action sequences perfectly. Mitsumune's score, on the other hand, provides the atmosphere necessary in highlighting the elegant nature of Ohtori Academy.

I agree! I've been an Utena fan for years and the prog rock tracks from the OST always stood out for me, even when I didn't know that that kind of music was known as "progressive rock" to begin with. I've been rewatching the series now that it's been rereleased on DVD, and I've noticed that I not only love the show more than I did before, but I now appreciate J.A. Seazer's music as a fan of prog rock.

Awesome library you have on here! I think it's cool that you have both J.A. Seazer's music from Utena and Porcupine Tree in your top tracks.

Hi there! I have a question: how do you scrobble from an iPod? Do you plug your iPod into your computer and play your songs that way, or do you scrobble it a different way? Your taste is awesome, btw. ^_^

I haven't been keeping up with them much either. Except that Ishikawa's solo album "Boku wa Mada Nanimo Shiranai" is really good. I haven't heard anything of See-Saw though... I though they split. Oh, but from Kajiura's projects, FictionJunction YUUKA seems to be the most active. I personally enjoyed their album "Destination". It has a few anime insert songs on it (from Madlax, for example) but it's great!

No-Man is worth a listen IMHO, but be forewarned it doesn't rock as hard as PT or Blackfield. For myself, I have yet to hear the Opeth CD that SW produced...
