    6. Dez. 2006, 15:22

Noticed that people have had some succes with these types of journals, so I'll give it a try too!

What do YOU think I should be listening to?

Take a look at my charts (I recommend looking further than just the top 50) and give me your bands. Some samples of their music, if not found in last.fm, would be great! Also interested in genres that are not found on my charts like hardcore punk/metalcore etc. Doom/death/goth metal I've tried, and found a few good songs but I really think it just isn't my cup of tea.

Here are some of my favourites (to get some people here).

    Fiona Apple
    Faith No More
    The Mars Volta
    Kingston Wall
    Rättö ja Lehtisalo
    Devendra Banhart
    Boys of Scandinavia
    The Knife
    Rage Against the Machine
    Nine Inch Nails
    At the Drive-In
    Tom Waits
    The Doors
    Pearl Jam
    Death from Above 1979
    Adam Green
    Nellie McKay
    The Sounds
    A Perfect Circle
    Blind Melon
    Danko Jones
    Jeff Buckley
    Vesa-Matti Loiri
    Magyar Posse
    The Faint
    Au Pair

    Ready? GO!
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

    Opening credits:
There aint no good chain gang

Thee hee, nice one. Quite a traditional country song, requires a driving scene, or atleast a lot of movement.

    Waking up:
    Walk in the sky (feat.bajka)

Something completely different. This would be a grey, rainy morning.

    Average day:
    The Smiths

Without the lyrics, an upbeat song, so yep, would be just great for an average day.

    First date:
    The Press Corpse

    Lots of action :).

    Falling in love:
    She Called Me Daddy

Dark. Song is about a breakup, so doesn't promise much for the future :D.

    Love scene:
    City of the Dead

Definetly not the music for the first time a couple has sex. This is one of those times when you just rip of each other clothes and LAUGH during the hole thing.

    Fight scene:
    Tiny Paintings

Uhm... Not much to say about this. A stupid fight about a stupd thing, the song tries to make that clear for the viewer.

    Breaking up:
    Get on the Snake

Obviosly a good thin, the breakup. I'm feeling proud and intependent and propably drinking ;).

    Getting back together:
    Rollover DJ

Starting to fun together again. Both know what happening, but don't want to do anything, fearing the other one does not feel the same.

    Secret love:

    Something mystical and beautiful.

    Life's okay:
    Sleeps With Butterflies

    The traditional walk-on-the-beach -scene. Smiling.

    Mental breakdown:
    Feeling Pain

    Running. Fast.

    Climbing up the Walls

Slowly and feeling crushed, driving somewhere no one else has been.

    Learning a lesson:
    First Aid Kit

    Hard and painfull.

    Deep thought:
    Pale Blue Eyes

    Suddenly, everything makes sense.

    Ziggy Stardust

Looking back when everything was still beautiful and simple.

    Ray Charles & Willie Nelson

Slowdancing with that certain someone. Or the singing in karaoke...

    Happy dance:
    Soy Luz y Sombra

Twirling twirling twirling on a sunny field on a beautiful autum morning.

    Pimeä maa

    Yep, really regretting...

    Long night alone:

All the things you should have said are running through your thoughts.

    Death scene:

Quite upbeat song without the lyrics.

  • Top 100 tracks ever?

    23. Okt. 2006, 13:22

There are different reasons for why different songs are here. Some of them make me sing (pretty much all of them do that actually), some dance, some cry, in some cases, I have no idea why I like them. They are in somesort of an order, first I tried to number them from one to hundred, but that was impossible to do. Then I put them in groups of ten, but that was too difficult too, so I divided them into Good, Better, the Best and The Best of the Best.

I may feel the need to comment on some of my choises...

    Every Time He Comes Around
    Good Looking
Mother Not kidding. I love it.
    Red Right Hand
    Voodoo People
The Day I Tried to Live
Sell Your Body (To The Night)
Torn The singalong tune of all time, plus it makes me feel ever worse when suffering from heartache, and that's actually a good thing.
Morgenstimmung I have always thought that Edvard Grieg is the pop of classical music, if that makes any sense, mostly because I have always understood his work better than any other classical composer’s.
    I Wanna Be Your Dog
    Blood Sugar Sex Magic
Kierot Pelit Never recorded, but the best cover ever. "Eeeen tahdo pudota rakkauteen, sun kera"
    Tony the Beat
    All the Best Girls
    Ampukaa komissaarit, nuo hullut koirat!
    Heart In a Cage
    Stand By Me
    Time Bomb
    Karma Police
Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?
    Sunny Afternoon
    Man in Black
    Everybody Here Wants You
    Theme from Shaft
    Weird Beard
I Put a Spell on You
    No Woman No Cry

La Tristesse Durera (Scream to a Sigh)
    Beat It
    Hands All Over
    At Last
    In My Spare Time
    Just a Man
Son of a Preacher Man This track HAS to be sung by Dusty, no one else will do.
Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
    Luonas kai olla saan
    Suspicious Minds
    Unfinished Sympathy
    King of the Sun
The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret
    Joku kuten minä
    Another Man's Vine
    Leo Jokela rides again
    I'm Waiting for the Man
    House of the Rising Sun
    Personal Jesus
    Wicked Game
    Get Gone
Every Day Is Exactly the Same
    (Ghost) Riders in the Sky

    The Best

    Lust For Life
    Move Over
    Even Flow
    Let Your Body Decide <3
    Kuu saa valtansa auringolta
    Aretha Franklin
    Wait and Bleed
I Feel Love An amazing Donna Summer cover.
    Älä astu kauppiaan päälle
    Sour Times
    No One Knows
There Is a Light That Never Goes Out
    Desperate Guys
    Uni saa tulla
    Blue Monday
    Used to Feel Before

    The Best Of The Best

    Multiple Spouse Wounds
    Piece of My Heart
Touch Me If the Great and Holy Flying Spaghetti Monster would suddenly command that all mankind would have to turn into songs, this would be my first choice.
Hurt Well well. I really had to struggle with this one. I adore Trent Reznor as well as Mr. Cash and it feels wrong to put one of Reznor's songs in my top 10 of all time and kinda give the credit to someone else. And for that matter to compliment a great songwriter like Cash by saying that his best work is not really his... Oh well, I'm out thinking this, it's just a stupid journal in last.fm.
Intertiatic E.S.P. Obviously, has to be played right after Son Et Lumiere.
I'm The King, I'm The Sun
    Celestial Blues
    The Pot
Help Simple reason why this is here: It's the first song ever I remember REALLY listening to and loving. First song ever I recorded on a cassette. First english song ever I tried to sing along to. It's not much of a song now, but those feeling it gave me then are kinda still there everytime I listen to it.
The Flesh Failures (Let The Sunshine In) Yes I love the movie version cause it's the first one I heard.
    Jesus Christ Pose
    Enjoy The Silence
    Nuorena Syntynyt
    Bohemian Rhapsody
Down Rodeo All RATM songs are in my top 10. That’s why there’s just this one mentioned, cause it represents all of them.
    Minä olen myyrä
    Where Is My Mind???

Like the most clever ones have already noticed, there’s a lot more than 100 songs in this list. I just couldn’t minimize it anymore.
  • This Is A Survey

    24. Sep. 2006, 17:47

I still feel the need to explain why I do these stupid surveys.... Well, atleast I don't put any artist connections to them, so everyone who read them, really wan't to read them :)

    You know the drill...

    1. Tool
    First heard: Stinkfist
    First favourite: Hush
    Current favourite: Hush/The Pot/Parabola

Rediscovered Tool after 10,000 days. Pure love between us, me and Tool that is.

    2. Tori Amos
    First heard: Cornflake Girl
    First favourite: Cornflake Girl
Current favourite: Crucify/The Power Of Orange Nickers/A Sorta Fairytale/Wednesday

Tori Amos. Didn't understand the fuss about Tori at all before I heard Crucify. I mean, I really liked Cornflake Girl, but the obsessiveness of her fans was weird to me... BC (BeforeCrucify) that is :).

    3.The Faint
    First heard: Desperate Guys
    First favourite: Desperate Guys
    Current favourite: Desperate Guys/Phonecall/Agenda Suicide

A relatively new band for me. Friend of mine intoduced me to them after she came back from her year long stay from the United States. Quickly they've climbed up my stats.

    4. Tenacious D
    First heard:Kielbasa
    First favourite: Fuck Her Gently
    Current favourite: Frindship/Karate

For a month or so, when I first got my hands on the CD, I didin't listen to (almost)anything else. No I listen to a Tenacious D song once and a while to make me smile, but because of that fanatic month they are still so up on my chart. Not complaining though, I love them :)

    5. Fiona Apple
First heard: Fast As You Can
    First favourite: Extraordinary Machine
Current favourite: Tymps (sick in the head song)/Get Gone/Limp

"But when I think of it
    my fingers turn to fists
I never did anything to you man"

She's one mean girl and I love her for that.

    6. Faith No More
First heard: Easy or Digging The Grave
    First favourite: Digging The Grave
    Current favourite: Stripsearch/Mouth To Mouth

Nothing really exiting to tell about my relationship with Faith No More. One of my old favourites.

    7. Pearl Jam
    First heard: Alive
    First favourite: Alive
Current favourite: Dead Man Walking/Why Go

    Eddie... Aaah...

    8. The Ark
    First heard: dont remember
First favourite: One Of Us Is Gonna Die Young
Current favourite: Clamour For Glamour/Let Your Body Decide/Patchouli/Tired Of Being An Object

Ola Salo is the best thing that has ever come from Sweden. You'd think The Ark is just a stupid popgroup but... I dare you to listen!

    9. At The Drive-In
First heard: Honest To A Fault
    First favourite: Honest To Fault
    Current favourite: Star Slight

I have a HUGE fetish for curlyhaired guys... And when they play like this... I was gonna say that I'd give my other kidney to see them get back together, but then we wouldn't have The Mars Volta. What a dilemma...

    10. The Strokes
    First heard: Last Nite
    First favourite: Juicebox
Current favourite: Heart In A Cage/Visions Of Divisions

Hmm. I'm not sure if they even should be so high on my list... I mean, I only like one of their albums and even some of the songs on that album are quite boring... But last.fm doesn't lie :)
  • I'm On A Mission...

    15. Aug. 2006, 16:00

...to listen atleast one song from each album I own. Except the vinyls, cause I don't have a player anymore. It's not that big of an effort, cause I only have ~330 albums (~25 Gb), nothing compared to that one guy who is listening to EVERY SINGLE song of his 17 000 song (or something like that) library.

But still (I started on sunday, now I'm in the letter R already), it's a time consuming job! And highly addictive as well. I actually haven't done anything else during these two days but listened to music. Well of course I ate and read some and went to the supermarket... But I haven't called anyone, _HAVEN'T_EVEN_SMOKED_, or went to the pub in two days... And that's quite a long time for me.

Well, has this listening experience been of any use (why does everything I do nowadays have to be something usefull? oh well)? I'd say it has, I've listen to a lot of bands I hadn't listen to in a while (The BellRays, The Stooges, CCR for example), even found some music I didn't even remember I had (Van Morrison, Talking Heads, Rush etc).

AND I've fallen in love with old favourites again (Faith No More, Kingston Wall, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden). I've been so facinated by bands like The Faint, Boys of Scandinavia and Fila Brazillia last few months that I had forgotten all about my rock/grunge/what-ever-you-wanna-call-them bands.

But, there's a lot of music yet to be played, I must continue. My only problem is that I keep getting stuck on these PERFECT albums like FNM's King For A Day..., and Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger, Extraordinary Machine by Fiona Apple etc., so my "mission" keeps sucking more hours from my day.

    Oh Well, I'm on holiday!
