An excellent show, to be sure

Fri 7 Mar – All That Remains, Chimaira, Light This City, Black Tide, Chronic D

Let me preface this by saying that this was the last night of All That Remains's headlining tour, which naturally meant that it was going to be one hell of a show, full of excellent playing and possibly some big surprises. I was excited.

Due to traffic, though, I did not get to the show in time to see Chronic D or Light This City. I was mostly disappointed for not seeing Light This City, but something that happened later more than made up for that.

I got there just in time to see Black Tide. They were okay, I suppose. Reminded me a lot of Trivium's newer sound. Black Tide did play a good cover of Metallica's Hit the Lights, so that made their set passable.

Chimaira was on next. This was my second time seeing Chimaira, so I knew what to expect. They opened with three older songs that I was not familiar with, then went into the always-excellent Power Trip. They followed it up with Worthless and Black Heart, and then surprisingly went into Pure Hatred, which I was expecting them to close with. However, they closed out in fine fashion with Nothing Remains and Resurrection. An excellent set from an excellent band.

All That Remains was last, and they brought it right from the start. They started off with four straight songs from The Fall of Ideals - The Air That I Breathe, Indictment, It Dwells in Me, and Become the Catalyst. They then went into Tattered on My Sleeve and We Stand before going into the classic Follow. Hearing an old track from ATR was one of the things that made the night for me. They continued with Six, For Salvation, Not Alone, and This Darkened Heart before ending with This Calling, as always. The encore, though, was what made the entire night perfect. For the encore, Laura Nichol from Light This City came out and sang The Weak Willed as a duet with Phil Labonte. That was the perfect ending to a perfect night.

I am currently raging to some Light This City as I write this, to make up for missing their set. All in all, though, this was definitely an excellent show that I'm glad I saw. I hope that Light This City and All That Remains tour together again soon.
