The idea is for a journal for every month listing new albums I listen to and what I think so that when I review the year's music in December, I will have a handy reminder. I will add to this as the month goes on. Suggestions welcome.

Play the radio: My Gang Featured Albums 10

January | February | March | April | May | June |
July | August | September | October | November

w/c Mon 29 November:

Girls - Broken Dreams Club
San Francisco indie pop with horns and peddle steel guitars. 50s/60s flavour to the music. 6-track EP.

Solvents - Forgive Yr. Blood
Indie rock. Lo-fi, homemade, bit rough around the edges.

broken little sister - memories, violet & demons
Out Jan 17 2011. From Yokohama, Japan. Shoegaze, electronica, ambient, folk and dreamy psychedelia. Debut album.

Gonjasufi - The Caliph's Tea Party
An album of remixes by other artists. Good, but I prefer the debut, A Sufi and a Killer.

w/c Mon 06 December:

Oddjob - Clint
Ennio Morricone's music for Clint Eastwood films in nu-jazz form. Weird but intriguing. You keep going back to it. One of my albums of the year.

Daft Punk - TRON: Legacy
Soundtrack to the film Tron: Legacy. Electronic and acoustic. This is Daft Punk's first film score for a major studio. Sophisticated and accomplished. Comparison made to Philip Glass for his soundtrack for Koyaanisqatsi.

Gregory Darling - Stew Americano
2010 album from the American singer/songwriter, formerly the leader of rockers The Darling Cruel.
Rocker discovers soul and a piano. Not really my cup of tea. Middle of the road.

Manic Street Preachers - Postcards from a Young Man
The only Manics album I like. Was never a fan of their previous, overblown sound and swagger. Here, we have a very decent album indeed. Their 10th studio album it features guest vocals from Ian McCulloch on Some Kind of Nothingness, JOhn Cale on piano on Auto-Intoxication and Duff McKagen playing bass on A Billion Balconies Facing The Sun. Manics bassist Nicky Wire sings lead vocals on The Future Has Been Here 4 Ever alongside drummer Sean Moore on the trumpet.

w/c Mon 13 December:

Twin Shadow - Forget
Focused mostly on the 80s, this has a wide span, from quiet introspection to party music. One of the Sunday Times top new artists of the year.

Squeeze - Spot the Difference
The original songs re-recorded today. Not originals remastered. Everyone should listen to it by law.

Trent Hancock - Ghostbird EP
Unsigned artist. Indie-pop folk rock. Kind of addictive. Played this on repeat.

David Gray - Foundling
Released in August but, annoyingly, wasn't streaming anywhere. Only just got round to it. David Gray being dramatic and melancholic. Which I quite like.
