  • My place of work jacked up my scrobbling.

    7. Mai. 2008, 14:58

My employer has been trying to implement a network security/monitoring tool called Ironport for a while now, and I think it might finally be in place. So not only are some websites blocked now, but any music I play at work (you know, to stay sane) is not being successfully scrobbled.

I'm almost surprised how upsetting this is to me - even though my home scrobbling is still fine (and now works with Audiosurf!), it now just seems like my profile page is an inaccurate sham.

There might be a workaround, but I was up late playing GTA4 and my brain is not even awake enough to tackle it.
  • Are you like me? Do you like the music AND the video games?

Well, if so, you might have already heard of Guitar Hero and/or Rock Band. But how about Audiosurf?

    Audiosurf

Audiosurf is a self-published game available for a mere $10 (but you can only download it using the Steam distribution service - which is free to get). The game converts any song (some formats not supported) into a "track" and song elements into colored blocks you pick up as you cruise down the track. You earn points for clusters of the same color blocks. For $10 it has an impressive number of game modes of varying complexity, so it can be challenging if you want, but there are also easier modes if you're usually intimidated by video games. In short, if you've played a game like Tetris, you can get into Audiosurf. If you don't like games at all, there's always the option to just put the headphones on and cruise down the track with no need to do anything but bliss out (perhaps using your buzz-inducing substance of choice).

The game is so great that I'm currently going back through my entire CD collection to play all my CDs as game levels. It's a walk down memory lane for sure.

Oh did I mention every song has online leaderboards for those who want to compete for high score? If nothing else, you may be surprised to see someone else out there has played a song/group you thought you were the only fan of. Get it now and thank me later - I'll share some of my strategies when you do.

Oh, and it should also be mentioned that an update is currently in beta testing that will support last.fm scrobbling, so songs you play get scrobbled. :D
  • Here comes the neighborhood.

This week, the moving truck bears a giant Anti-Flag banner and settles me in amongst the teenagers and/or Nordics. I'm hosting a punk parka party as a housewarming!

"You can be the first person to write a journal about Jimmy Hats. Neat."

Well gosh, last.fm, if you really want me to.

Jimmy Hats is a song about condoms! Not, as some might think, about those dumb pantyhose things Nelly wears on his head.
