Nate Ruess doesn’t really care about traditional structure, tempo, and instrumentation. He doesn’t need to create a memorable, radio-friendly chorus for every song. No, that’s too easy for the former lead singer of The Format. He much prefers throwing in gospel choirs, swing beats, swelling violins and pulsing drums wherever he pleases, not necessarily where the song requires it. He likes to mix it up, play around a bit. He likes to have fun.

The Brazilians always call new albums perfect, no matter how mediocre or bad it is. Some Nights is decent, but it's not as fun as Aim & Ignite, nor is it as thought-out. A couple of songs stand out, but overall it's the same sound through-out.

I'm starting to think the haters (which kind of includes me) are taking this album too seriously. Songs are still great. Would've rather had a different producer, but whatever. The band's name is "fun." Maybe we should all just agree to enjoy it regardless; it's so hard not to.
