When Larceny Entertainment starchild Young Hootie rips a mic apart on a mixtape or guest appearance, the street listens. Not just because his lyrics, delivery and flow are more on point than many seasoned veterans of the game, but because real recognizes real, and when Young Hootie spits bars, they come from the heart.
Born in Compton to a mother that eventually fell victim to the crack epidemic, Young Hootie easily identified with rappers such as Tupac that he felt spoke to his situation. Young Hootie had been involved with the street life from an early age, and at age 14, his older brother, who had up until then been the man of the house, was locked up, forcing Young Hootie into early adulthood. Instead of letting this get him down, however, Young Hootie turned to music and academics. Before long, he was taking his SAT books to study at a friend’s basement studio in between rhyming sessions. Both of these efforts ended up providing him with more success than he had originally planned for - the impromptu recording sessions made him an overnight celebrity in his neighborhood, and his studies landed him a ticket to Morehouse, the most prestigious historically Black College in the nation.
Since laying down his first 16 bars three years ago, Young Hootie has been steadily ripping up the game, and the industry is quickly starting to take notice. After a positive review from DJ Warrior, he linked up with Larceny Entertainment, home to T.K. and Mark “Breezy” Brown, A&R Executive for such rap powerhouse labels as Priority Records, Capitol Records & Def Jam Records.
