There are two bands with this name:
1) You and I were a late 90s band. While they maintained the heavy, chaotic elements typical of the genre, their music has traveled well in terms of influence due to its more tuneful and musical qualities. While other bands in the genre often simply played fast, You and I had a very solidly inventive rhythm section and two guitarists were who were able to add interesting textures and interplay to the music, incorporating riffs that recalled midwest emo, tech metal, and almost every other punk subgenre; often while holding down vocal parts at the same time. While You and I were by no means the only emo band to integrate clean vocals and layered harmonies, they did it in the context of what were often atypical song structures, particularly on their final CD, “The Curtain Falls”, which was released in 2000 by Level Plane Records.
Following the dissolution of You and I, the members went on to bands such as This Ship Will Sink, Neil Perry, The Assistant, and In First Person. Currently, one of the guitarists (Casey) is in Hot Cross.
2) You and I started in November 1992 as a progressive rock band in Budapest, Hungary. Former friends joined to produce quality music based on the traditions of the progressive bands of the ’70s. Actually, in addition to their own music, You and I’s repertoire includes titles from Yes and Enya as well as folk ballads. Songs are performed both in English and Hungarian. It is worthy to mention the 1994 Yes Memorial Concert.
