This feels like a guilty pleasure for me. I love it but I feel like I shouldn't. Maybe bring it out every couple of months, otherwise as other people have said, it all starts to sound the same. Still, good melodies and full of nice hooks.

An utter delight - my favorite of Weezer's albums, even over Blue. (It's a REALLY close call, though, I'll admit it.) Can't think of a single song on here I don't like. Island In The Sun will probably always be stuck in my head. (Also, may Mikey rest in peace...)

@goldengriffin90: "It's not as good as Blue or Pinkerton" and therein lies the problem. If any other band woulda put this out I'm sure people'd like it more, but considering Weezer's previous record it can't help but feel like a disappointing slide downwards.

RIP Mikey Welsh. :( I think this album gets way too much hate. It's not as good as Blue or Pinkerton, but I think it's a great, fun, poppy album to listen to. The first 4 tracks are excellent pop rock tunes.

@PartySanCTG I couldn't agree more. I listened to it on Spotify the other day and it turned out pretty much out I expected. It starts out pretty strong but after awhile the songs start to sound the same. "Hash Pipe" is probably the most blandest of them all. The only songs I actually enjoyed were "Photograph", "Island in the Sun", and "Don't Let Go".

Or, to put it simpler: this album is the audio equivalent of a smart, somewhat awkward person dumbing down and trying to act stupid to fit in with the meathead clique. And that's just sad.

I just listened to it on Grooveshark out of curiosity, and I have exactly the same criticisms as other people. All the songs DO start to blur together (except maybe Island in the Sun, which is a nice breather). The production has this very flat, overcompressed quality that makes the record sound like a chore. All the guitars sound practically the same, and the band sound so pro they might as well be robots. The whole thing has a very homogenous, Uncanny Valley quality at times, as if Weezer "rehearsed the life out of the songs". Perhaps most nagging of all, it does feel like Rivers intentionally dumbed down his songwriting to a strict formula. Oh, and the vocal-melody solos are annoying - Nirvana only did that in, like, two songs for a reason. On the other hand, the songs do have catchy if completely faceless hooks, Hash Pipe is fun, sorta, and Island in the Sun is a perfect, very pretty pop song. Beyond that, I have to agree with soyrev calling it "pasteurized mediocrity".

This is THE summer record for me. My personal Weezer fave. Dunno if it's due to the fact I listened to it every summer when I was 12-13, but I love it anyway!

Pretty boring. Just listened to the whole thing. After listening to this you sit back with a feeling of having heard 8 mediocre songs. And photograph + island in the sun. Which are great.

I don't see why people hate on this album. I think it's awesome ;D Pinkerton and the Blue album are great and all, but people should really look past them instead of putting them on pedestals and hating on every other album, IMO.
