Vargo is a duo from Hamburg: producer, multi-instrumentalist and aural aesthete Ansgar Üffink and the strikingly versatile, beguiling voice of singer Stephanie Hundertmark. Their project playfully oscillates between ambient and trip hop, downbeat and pop.

And that with great success. Vargo was the first German band to be featured in the internationally celebrated CD series ‘Café del Mar’, and subsequently established itself as a permanent resident. By now, Vargo tracks appear on far more than 150 compilations, which together have sold more than two million copies, among them further outstanding samplers as ‘Buddha Bar’, ‘Space Night’ or ‘Bar Lounge Classics’. Their debut album ‘Beauty’ – long since hailed a classic by connoisseurs – attained cult status in many countries and built a worldwide fan base. Without backing by a major label, a longer tour or international reviews, ‘Beauty’ sold more than 50,000 copies all over the world, making Vargo one of the most successful bands of its genre.

All of these figures, events and success stories appear, however, less significant once you immerse yourself deeper in Vargo’s world. Because Ansgar and Stephanie have an objective, a strong wish. Both of them are extraordinarily perceptive, artistically as well as philosophically. Their aim is to communicate, to inspire and to stimulate; they want to take us on a journey that brings us closer to our inner selves.
