The original master of Nattens actually wasn't clipped at all, despite being brickwalled to hell. The new version sounds way better though. There's much less brickwalling, which definitely makes it sound better. And the bass is way more audible, which is great because the bass on this album is awesome.

well that's the first time I've ever been called a metal elitist, and by a weepy power metal aficionado no less. I feel like an achievement should pop up on my monitor.

Translation: "The remaster sucks because it's not trve kvlt enough"

Agree that the Bergatt remaster is weak. First off, they killed the dynamics, which while noticeable isn't the biggest reason it turned me off. The significant difference is that the production tweaks make it more "professional" sounding but kill the creepy recorded-in-a-cabin vibe that made me enraptured by the album in the first place. It's subtle, but the more even reverb and clearer bass ruin it for me. I imagine that a new listener wouldn't be put off by it though. The Nattens remaster is the opposite and I dig it. While I respect the original for being physically painful to listen to, the remaster isn't clipped to hell anymore and is better for it.

yeah, the Nattens remaster sounds really good. like unholydeath said, it's far more dynamic. comparing the sound waves between it and the original is pretty amusing. the treble was toned down a lot, but it still has plenty of bite. you hear so much more detail from the drums and bass than before, and even better, you can now actually crank this on a stereo without fear of destroying equipment or eardrums. it was already one of my absolute favorite black metal albums, and this remaster almost makes me feel like i did when i first started loving it.

Strange as I find the Nattens remaster a lot better than the original. High end is not as tormenting anymore, but it's far more dynamic than the original press. And bass is more audible. Then again I did not find Bergtatt remaster that good at all.

Remasters sound very good, except 'Nattens Madrigal', which seems to have lost a lot of its bite... Need to investigate further.

" Like every other musician in the history of the artform then. " I second that. Also, "Vargnatt" is an exceptionnal release, truly ahead of its time, like Ved Buens Ende and Fleurety at the very same time, but a bit earlier. And "Blood Inside" is the second best Coil album..

and yeah Ulver have been phonies from the getgo. Black metal johnny-come-lates turned pseudo-intellectual electronic music that mainly impresses metalheads who don't listen to any music besides metal.

" Like every other musician in the history of the artform then." You think no artist has ever helped set a new paradigm or mark the beginning of a new style or ethos? That's silly. Everyone is influenced by other music, but that's not the same thing as jumping on a bandwagon. There are nuances.

You know, I just realised that Ulver have always been followers but still been passed of as pioneers. The released their first bm album in 95, which was after the true Norwegian black metal wave. Then they went into Coil territory and copied them and various other electronic pioneeers for a while during the early 00's, and since then they let the Englishman join and released a bunch of ridiculous things with him present (Messe I.X- VI.X not included). In the end, I love Ulver because I grew up with this, but still, they have done nothing but copied others since forever.

I don't want to be 'one of those people', but seriously... They were great from 1994 up to and including 2002, I'm not sure what happened after that.

what they call evolve is just another way to call "boring" personally i found perdition city a master piece, then they changed completely in blood inside that anyway was still a good change, then shadows of the sun, you can obviously see the way they are going to, and after that album everything turns boring and with no passion whatsoever
