This song is about war... I have a problem with war... So I voiced it. That’s exactly what Jefferson was talking about. I think we can both agree this is a fantastic song so why argue about. It just seemed to me that you were putting people down for having an opinion.

Now, what I came here to say is that this song breaks my heart every time I hear it.

...or to pretend that quoting others serves as personal thought or action. And besides THAT, the silence I called for is not what Jefferson referred to. I was asking for a silence of contemplation and genuine listening. Jefferson was talking about the silence of pretending tyranny doesn't exist. (Funny that an English bloke would choose to quote Jefferson lol)

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. -Thomas Jefferson

It's funny how all of a sudden, when a song talks about the real horrors of life, people want to comment on versions and covers. There's time when, if you really have nothing to say, you shut up and say nothing.

i as well appreciate the Eric Bogle rendition a littler more. Eric is a little slower. It is also the first version of this song I heard, That does have a habit of staying with you

The version from Eric Bogle (the composer) is very decent as well.
