Les cheveux sont peut-être gris et le ventre de certain devenu bedonnant, c'est néanmoins toujours la même énergie et le même talent qui coule dans leurs veines.

Anecdotique
The Vipers ne laissera pas de grands souvenir... et c'est une bonne nouvelle: cela en aurait été de mauvais.

La grande question est: qu'est-ce qui a pris aux organisateurs de programmer ça en première partie de Deep Purple? Etait-ce pour rester dans la tranche d'âge? Ou pour suivre les ancestraux principes du yin et du yang (plus la tête d'affiche est bonne, plus la première partie devrait être mauvaise)? On ne le saura probablement jamais... Donc, passons!

La claque
Le concert débute donc vraiment à 21h, avec une bande-son instrumentale, pleine de violons et de cordes... juste ce qu'il faut pour planter le décor et chauffer un public bigarré, mais que l'on sent acquis d'avance à la cause purpulienne... et puis, lumière et. …

The 1970's saw the emergence of many new rock sub-genres as artists explored the music scene and began to make it their own. There was the hard rocking Thin Lizzy; Horslips fused hard rock with traditional Irish music to create Celtic rock; and folk rock fusion groups like Planxty and Moving Hearts continued…

Sweet screeching baby jesus, I've somehow gone a month without seeing a show. I knew that being back in Canada wasn't going to be a laugh a minute, but that's just not right. Once this broke-making holiday stuff is over and done with, I'm definitely going to have to find out where the interesting stuff happens in Toronto. (Suggestions would be welcome if anybody should happen to stumble across this posting.)

Vinyl is almost keeping me sane, though: news of a garage/surf rock record sale on a mostly-tedious music forum led to a 45 of The Vipers' "Never Alone", which I thought might have been the inspiration for the ACID EATER cover. Might as well find out for four bucks, right? And it was... and it was good, and a hunt for the original versions of other AE covers has since led to stuff by The Swamp Rats, The Balloon Farm and The Pretty Things, most of which have been well worth hearing. (If anybody would care to point me towards a source of similarly twisted organ-punk in the GTA, I'd appreciate that, too. …
