Pt II...U2 ( the Mekons enemy) tried to convince us of that as wel. Maybe thats why their music sucks now. Don't blame capitalism on your lack of passion, soul and "fire".

From ctd 55 "And if you can keep your wits about you under this assault, the Mekons will let you in on a home truth: rock 'n' roll is a device for extracting money from you, and little else." You really believe that? Maybe. If so, that was the Mekons MAJOR fault. Everthing had to be some sort of protest against "consumerism". Kind of pathetic. That's why other musicians have a lot more staying power....they actually love music.

From those opening squeals of feedback-drenched guitar, it feels like it's intended to monopolize your consciousness and drown out all thought. The guitar is so loud that it overwhelms both the backing vocals (you really need to listen closely to hear them) and the synth blasts that sound like lasers raining down on us during the invasion of some alien force. This song aims to knock down the walls of you conscious mind, and it seems stuffed with nearly inaudible noises just to amplify its visceral power. They're pulling out all the stops to shake you from your complacency. You know, the song almost seems deliberately ugly, as if they're abjuring rock 'n' roll's seductive power and bringing the hideous underbelly into view. And if you can keep your wits about you under this assault, the Mekons will let you in on a home truth: rock 'n' roll is a device for extracting money from you, and little else.

This track is pure power, beyond description. Self-conscious to the point of absurdity, it destroys what it is. Nihilism at its finest.
