  • One year of Last.fm: my top 50 albums + new finds + MP3s

    16. Feb. 2008, 3:09 von Inertia_90

It's been exactly one year and one day since I registered for Last.fm. Accordingly, I've decided to take a look back at the last year.

    My top albums
    1. The Beatles – The Beatles
I could have chosen almost anything from The Beatles for the top spot, but I find I listen to this one more than the others. It was a major influence on my guitar playing when I first began, and practically every song has a fond memory attached to it.

    2. M.I.A. – Kala
If you’ve read my journal with any regularity over the past few months, you’ll know that I hold Maya Arulpragasam in high regard, to say the least. I’m so glad to live in a time when something as gloriously strange as Boyz can be considered pop. Maya’s out in a field of her own and no one else is even close.

    3. Blur – Parklife
The ultimate pop record, Blur’s third album is a funhouse of melody, texture and sound held together by the sterling bass playing of Alex James.

    4. My Bloody Valentine – Isn’t Anything
    Go here.

    5. Nirvana – In Utero

  • 35 Years of Best Albums - 1982

    1. Apr. 2007, 23:53 von smastroyin

1982 suffers from a lot of the same "problems" as 1981 in my collection. Most of the good stuff coming out in these years I own as part of anthologies. Oh well.

    5. October

This is probably my least favorite U2 album outside of the last two. After the raw energy of Boy they got kind of cute and experimental here. I guess every band needs to grow, and in natural progression instead of retrospect this album was probably more important that I give it credit for. Still, it only makes the list because of the weak showing for 1982 in my collection. The presence of "Gloria" and "I Fall Down" at least mean I listen to parts of this album regularly.

    4. Violent Femmes

Due to the fact that this is one of the most overplayed indie albums of all-time, I never really listen to it anymore. Everybody I know, no matter what their normal musical taste, seems to have owned this album or a copy of it at least once in their life. …
