The Chi-Lites waren eine US-amerikanische Gesangsgruppe. Gegründet wurde die Band 1961, zunächst als Trio, in Chicago/Illinois von Marshall Thompson. Der große Durchbruch kam Mitte der 1960er Jahre. Zum einen bewarb sich ein Taxifahrer namens Eugene Record als neuer Leadsänger, zum anderen bekam das nunmehrige Quartett einen Schallplatten-Vertrag.

Die erste Langspielplatte erschien 1968 und hieß Give It Away. Der Titelsong ihrer zweiten LP Give More Power to the People sollte 1971 den ersten großen Erfolg bringen. Bis 1976 war die Vokal-Gruppe vor allem in England sehr erfolgreich. Eine Neufassung ihres Songs Homely Girl wurde 1990 ein Hit für die britische Reggae-Formation UB40.
