I always thought "The walrus was Paul" was something John said in an interview but then I heard this. What have I been missing all these years...

I had never liked this song, but now, oh it's one of my favourites, how could I not like this song? I was missing a masterpiece!

John was asked if he listened to Beatle songs played on the radio, he said he did not pay much attention, but once he heard "Glass Onion" come on the radio and he cranked it up. He was gald to hear a rather obscure classic on the FM

AphexCanada: Nah, Yellow Submarine album came out in '69, a year after this, which had Only a Northern Song. That was probably their last.

They should have done more songs like this. A Beatles song about Beatles songs is an excellent idea.

Such a great song; one of my favourites by them. I think it shows how talented these guys were when you listen to the Anthology version then the The White Album version. How they went from an acoustic version on Anthology to the String laden, bass driven version on The White Album is beyond me. Plus, those chords are amazing.

When I was a kid I had no idea what the hell the lyrics meant lol. A song I never grow tired of :)

seaniepatrick I don't mean to make fun but...what you're doing is exactly what John was sick of and why he wrote the song...

seaniepatrick- I didn't get that from it...I think you're trying to read too much into it..."we're as close as can be" is present tense...but you can take what you want from almost any lyric though.

To me it sounds like a frustrated Paul dig. I could be wrong. "I told you 'bout the walrus and me man, you know that we're as as could be man. Well here's another clue for you all, the walrus WAS Paul..." (past tense) " I told you 'bout the fool on the hill, I tell you man he's living there still..." The beggining of the end.

John blatantly knew people read far too much in his lyrics so put things in there to mess everyone up. Smart ass. I think they reached a certain point and just liked to take the piss out of the "Paul's dead" issue.
