Somehow I get the impression that if Fats had lived past 38 or 39 years of age, he died in 1943, some of Waller's playing in his later years would have sounded more like Wilson and Hines. You can only Harlem stride for so long, and if you listen to Waller's later recordings, they had a more modern feel.

Still pretty good, though I can see why the shout worries about whether this is a little too slick. I'll go back to listen more carefully to his other work. As far as I can remember, Wilson was always respected for working well in the small group environment - such as this.

I really don't know. I know I'm gonna sound ignorant saying this but he sounds to me like a very good backing pianist for a vocalist but not not great to as a soloist. Maybe I just can't see past the sustain pedal.

I do prefer Fats' version, but this one is a nice blues version. Still good though.

A subtle variant on the great Waller song. Shows how good Teddy was.
