Biografie

Hemel Hempstead, London, Vereinigtes Königreich

Steven John Wilson (* 3.

Well if you're not into original 70s prog you may not find it that predictable I guess. I can imagine ppl who never listened to King Crimson, Yes, Rush, Genesis, Floyd and stuff actually really liking it. The rest are just trying to convince themselves that it's good because it's SW and SW used to make great music back in the day.

While we could probably all agree that Raven has a lot of 70s prog influence, to say it is predictable? I don't think so, personally I enjoy it every bit as much as Insurgentes and Grace for Drowning. That there is different styles through each album keeps me coming back to each one, it is why I look forward to seeing what he does for the next one.

The Incident at least sounded modern and quite fresh. The Raven was basically just predictable retro music based on ripping off famous 70s bands.

Can't agree with that at all, but each to their own.

Incident and Raven were predictable as $hit though

Yeah. SW used to be quite good at making music.

Another epic like Raider II would be great as well.

Did anyone see Stupid Dream coming when the last album was Signify? Or In Abestina when the previous was Lightbulb Sun? If you think you know what SW is going to do next then you could easily get egg on your face. I think there will be some Raven elements, but I do not expect The Raven part 2.

can't fucking wait for $W's new concept album about ghost serial killers

Yeah. I mean he's left a band whose entire existence had become "la-la-la-meow-meow-meow" sections to concentrate on $W, meaning $W is now his outlet for la-la-la-meow-meow-meow. I am setting my expectations very low and if it somehow turns out better, great.

You never know, its only the retro side of SW you hate (which is not all that retro imo). I would be surprised if all his future albums stay retro. He usually changes styles every 2 albums. If he did not change anymore then even I the No 1 Raven fan would get fed up soon enough. If SW is still planning to do a concept album on serial killers then it would be hard to make a good retro album out of that without having some metal in it. I predict the new album will be a mix of the Raven and something else, just like GfD was a mix of Insurgentes and retro. I also remember that you liked the first 4 min of one of his new songs? So there is hope.

I just hope it won't be another redundant retro album. That's all. I've got my expectations so low that SW could only suprise me now. But I've been in the same situation before The Raven and that ended up very bad, so...

Looks to be another concept album with him mentioning "story". Otherwise not much to get from this statement. Pretentious could mean anything from SW's wide range of styles, at least we know its not going to be a Blackfield like album lol.
