Biografie

Slechtvalk ist eine niederländische Metal-Band mit Einflüssen aus Folk- und Viking Metal, sowie starken musikalischen Anleihen aus dem Symphonic Black Metal. Slechtvalk veröffentlichte die ersten Alben bei dem niederländischen Label „Fear Dark“ und ist gegenwärtig bei „Whirlwind Records“ unter Vertrag.

Die Geschichte Slechtvalks startete mit dem Niederländer „Shamgar“, der 1997 im Internet unter verschiedenen Namen eigene Lieder zu veröffentlichen begann. Im Jahr 1999 gründete er die Gruppe „Slechtvalk“ (niederl. für: Wanderfalke). Als Einflüsse nennt er neben „In Flames“, „Vardøger“, „Immortal“ und älteren Songs von „Antestor“ auch „Summoning“, „Dimmu Borgir“ und „Within Temptation“. Da das Label Fear Dark Interesse an „Slechtvalk“ bekündete, veröffentlichte er über dieses die CD Falconry noch im 2000.

Das Album wurde aus Sicht von „Shamgar“ ein Erfolg und so beschloss er weitere Musiker als Unterstützung zu suchen, u. a. wollte er auf den Drumcomputer verzichten und die nächsten Lieder mit echtem Schlagzeug produzieren. So fand er die neuen Bandmitglieder „Nath“, „Ohtar“, „Fionnghuala“, „Sorgier“ und „Grimbold“ - „Shamgar“ selbst übernahm die Gitarre und den Gesang. Im Sommer 2002 produzierte ihr Label eine Split-CD names Chaos & Warfare, wovon eine Hälfte „Slechtvalk“ zur Verfügung stand; als Partner dafür wählte man die indonesische Band „Kekal“. Im Oktober veröffentlichte die Band dann das Album The War That Plagues The Land.

    Im pretty sure you people coined the term Viking metal as a tag for them and not the band. All warriors of that time period dressed similar. Just because they have axes and swords doesnt make them vikings. Their lyrics have never been about Vikings.

    I tried to like this band some years ago. I like the christianity thing and the musicianship is good too, but... it didn't work out. Now I'm trying to like the new album. It's better, more diverse, more Black Metal. But still: doesn't work for me. I find this band to be rather, well, uninteresting. I guess it's that "Viking" thing - who defines a genre by the lyrics anyway? It's a Black Metal with some weak folk influences and lyrics about war, family and stuff. I'm kinda dissapointed.
