Just listened to Favour again today and I had forgotten how stunning it is.

Review 2/2: "Other honorable mentions are the supremely-produced Bonnie & Clyde (a gnarly slo-hand funk that ends in a memorable and rebellious sing-along); Occupation, clearly the record's standout single; the haunting and beautiful War Undreamt Of; and Free World, which features gorgeous vocal harmonies recalling Yes and a rocked-out Crosby, Stills & Nash. The players on Self-Esteem are clearly worth their salt, solidly featuring Sammy Arvis and and Angshu Chatterjee of Ocean Band fame / notoriety, and I freely admit my new musical bias towards Jonathan Kang, Sidd's free-wheeling, pick-slinging, groove-soaked bassist. The world is an imperfect place, and Sidd the dreamer is rightfully disgruntled - but in the end is redeemed, as so many others have, by honest expression and sincere art. If you want to get into some great music from Singapore without selling out, take heart - anti-establishment songwriter rock exists out here, and it's name is Sidd & His Self Esteem." ★★★★ / 5

Review 1/2: "Sidd should have high Self-Esteem, because he's put together a ripping rock album with acerbic and witty lyrics and solid production value. It's a heartening indication of how the Singaporean indie rock scene continues to grow in a great direction - while standing on the shoulders of rare local stalwart legends such as The Suns, which I recalled more than once on this listening (that's a good thing). Sidd's vocals and lyrics are intelligent, earnest, and display a spot-on rage - in particular, the angry working-class surf-grunge inspired Salesman, which opens the record, sums up Sidd's wry, maddening observations on hierarchy perfectly. The title track, Dream City, is a melodic, angst-filled anthem worthy of any disenfranchised Singaporean 20-something's playlist. The kids literally *need* to listen to this song. <continued>
