Pascal Pinon consists of twins Jófríður and Ásthildur, sixteen year old girls from Reykjavík, Iceland. When they were only fourteen they got together with two of their friends, Halla and Kristín, and decided to start a band. Using the instruments they had, Pascal Pinon made a raw version of “Undir heiðum himni” in the twin’s bedroom. Shortly after that they held their first concert, calling it the friendly concert, and invited their friends for muffins and music.

A month later, during spring, they competed in Iceland’s battle of the bands but sadly didn’t make it to the final. The summer of 2009, a few months after the competition, Pascal Pinon had played all over town in various local venues and decided to record their first album. They borrowed a house in a small town called Vogar and with only one microphone recorded the album entirely by themselves. It was raw, home made and extremely cute. The album, named Pascal Pinon after the band, contains ten songs written by singer Jófríður and one song, “Moi” written by the band.

The main influences are thin walls and shyness but their music has been described as acoustic indie low-fi pop with a little touch of twee. The album is a short but enjoyable journey through what it’s like being a teenager with a guitar in your bedroom. Where things don’t have to be perfect or fancy or anything, just sincere and well done. Starting off with the band’s first song “Undir heiðum himni” meaning “Under clear sky” a tribute to birds and mountains and other things in the nature, and ending with “En þú varst ævintýr-” Jófríður’s song to the poem of one of Iceland’s most loved poets Davíð Stefánsson from Fagriskógur.

The album was first released only in Iceland as a completely independent record. It was nominated for The Icelandic Music Awards as Newcomer of the Year 2009. The twins now have the assistance of their parents when it comes to more complicated matters, making the band sort of a family business. Today they are rehearsing new material, learning how to play new instruments and writing songs and lyrics for many albums to come.
