Paddy and the Rats wurden 2008 von Paddy (Sänger und Songwriter), Vince (Bass) und Joey (elektr. Gitarre) geründet. Nach einiger Zeit stießen noch Seamus (Schlagzeug), Sonny (Akkordion) und Sam (Geige, Flöte, Banjo) dazu.
„Punk ist das selbe für die Musik, wie Ratten für Tiere - dreckig und böse!“ („punk is the same in music as rats among the animals - dirty and malicious!“). Daher hat auch der Bandname seinen Ursprung!
Die Band aus Ungarn kombiniert Irish Folk mit Punk-Musik und so entsteht ein unverwechselbarer Paddy and the Rats-Klang.
Sie spielen irische Seefahrer-Songs (Drunken Sailor, Bully in the Alley), Pub-Musik (Pub ‘n’ Roll, Fuck you, I’m drunk), aber auf Konzerten auch Cover von bekannten Punk-Größen (Sex Pistols, Green Day). Durch die teilweise exotischeren Instrumente hat jeder Song aber eine besondere Note.
