Über dieses Album

Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea ist das sechste Studioalbum der englischen Alternative-Rock Musikerin PJ Harvey. Das Album wurde am 23. Oktober 2000 auf Island Records veröffentlicht. Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea wurde von März bis April 2000 im Südosten Englands (im Great Linford Manor in Milton Keynes) aufgenommen.

Es ist bis heute eines der erfolgreichsten Alben von PJ Harvey, und sie gewann 2001 als erste Frau den Mercury Music Prize. Während der Preisverleihung, die am 11. Sheela na gig ? Umh , ok . Water ? I love it . Easy ? Have to admit it ! :) The Garden , Dry , Snake - everyone who listens to her songs exactly knows why . I guess . Stories from the city , stories from the sea is probably the point of which I can say , I stopped to follow P.J. Harveys progress . Certainly because it couldn ´t quite get better . Commercial ? Maybe . But to me it IS her masterpiece . Though I don ´t know this person , sure - it may sound stupid but listening to this album makes me proud of her . Right now , we float . Winter . It ´s freaking cold . I ´m lonesome . I got a guitar and I ´ll get myself something to drink . :)

I think overall I prefer Dry and Rid of Me because they're darker, but damn. This album is just relentlessly interesting. Each individual track is absolutely fantastic and none of them seem samey. I wouldn't consider this album to have any "filler" tracks, but listening to this album on repeat from start to finish doesn't even get boring because it is so, wonderfully, dynamic.

I've just created an account just to write here, right here. Maybe it was ten years ago and I was a member to the Last FM, briefly. I just want to praise this album. Made me drink, made me dream, smoke, wander throughout the years. I really love this album, each note of it. It was released in 2000 not?

The feel of this album is fantastic. The simplicity and optimism of the music is beautiful. Definitely one of her best. Sometimes it's okay to not be so rough and tough or have a heavy-hearted message to speak about. She was obviously in a good place when she made this and the album reflects that.

The record isn't among her worst because it's "too commercial", that's just silly. It's among her worst because it's bland and boring COMPARED to a lot of her other work. It's still a good album I guess, but she's done so much better. A bit simple for me.

she perfectly captured nyc's pre 11.9 essence. this record is magnificent, but it's "too mainstream" for fans to admit they like it

I can't stop listening to this one when I'm heading to NYC. "This Mess We're In", "You Said Something" and "One Line" are sooo dedicated to this awesome city!!!

Hey. I'm going to NYC on a trip soon and - nerd alert - I want my photo taken just like she is on this cover, sunglasses at night, bag, crossing the street and all. I want to be exactly where she is in the photo, provided there's no construction or media event blocked off or anything. It's Times Square, right? Obviously, right? But where, exactly? 42nd and Broadway facing Downtown?

I can't understand why people are critical of this album, seriously? The melodies are pure gold. Yeah, it did end up sounding like a more mainstream album, that was what she was going for, she said she wanted the album to sound beautiful and it does, in a purely pop sense. The duet with Thom Yorke is haunting, " We float" is a beautiful song, so is " Horses in my Dreams"... like the whole album is good. I agree the lyrics aren't as good as on her other albums, but the songs as a whole are so aesthetically pleasing, she already did angry and raw good, and this was the direction she moved in, it worked, it won a Mercury Prize in 2001 for best album, she did a good job as usual. Its PJ and everything she does is good.
