• Dear Last.fm

Stop making my 'most listened to artists' thing look ugly. Like it or not, people are going to use Original London Cast and the like, as it's the most convenient tag. Tagging everything by the singers just clogs up our music libraries.

It's also worth noting that they all have proper related artists, and Last.fm sometimes corrects tags to them. Just sayin'.

Constantly putting your godawful and ugly 'FIX YOUR TAGS' images in place of proper images won't change that.

    No love,

  • Tagging showtunes sucks... Sigh.

    5. Sep. 2008, 19:01 von PurpleCow17

If only there was a non-sucky way of tagging showtunes. But unfortunately, there isn't. None of the methods suggested work too terribly well.

Cast? That makes Last.fm complain, as well as being awkward in general. When it looks like "Original Broadway Cast" has written and performed thousands of songs. Heh. Not to mention half of them are called "Finale" or "Overture."

Composer? This is the best option if you don't have multiple cast recordings... I do, however, and though most of my shows at the moment are tagged with this, it's very irritating to try to find Lea Salonga's version of "On My Own" when all I can find are five or six versions of the song by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg. And the difference between the performances is *certainly* not going to show up on Last.fm.

Show? Again, no way to differentiate between performances. Same irritation.

Performer? Can't do anything the crap with "Ensemble," or "Instrumental."

  • How diverse is my music?

    18. Apr. 2007, 6:44 von allez42

I got a 53, not counting the musicals, which would give at least 20 more results.
    ***

First, make a list of your top-20 artists overall. Then, for each of these artists, add the 8 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, count up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 20 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a score of 180 represents an extremely varied one.

    Radiohead
    The Smashing Pumpkins

  • Guess the Song!

    27. Jun. 2006, 8:48 von Vania90

I found it in elflord's journal, somehow, thought it was funny, so I stole it and did it myself.

    However, that's how it works:

    1. Put your MP3 player or whatever on random. (I took my MP3 player, it was quite funny...)
    2. Post the first line(s) from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
    3. Let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
    4. Bold out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
    5. Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is cheating.

Yeah, that's it; have fun guessing the songs. Some are quite easy to guess - not only if you know me... :)

    Artists in alphabetical order:

Angra, Annie Lennox (2x), Apocalyptica, At the Lake, Blackmore’s Night, Enya (2x), Gorillaz, Green Day, Guano Apes, Kurt Nilsen, Lordi, Lorne Greene, Nightwish (2x), Original London Cast (5x), Poets of the Fall (2x), Sonata Arctica (5x), Theater An Der Wien (2x)

Just for a slight information because it could be anything…

    10000 (August 16, 2005 - March 16, 2006)
... 10164 to be exact! That was a large sync.
*** NOTE : The total numbers for artists are now off due to a change in the last.fm database. But the proportions should still be about the same ***

I wanted to keep track of what artists I had at the top of my list when I hit 10,000 so that when I hit 15 or 20 thousand I can compare. If you're reading this list, I apologize if the links don't mesh for you. My musical tastes are all over the map.

    My Current Top 30:
    1 The Beatles (502)
When my dad comes over to work on the house, he insists on All Beatles, all the time. That being said, they are one of my favorite bands. But depending on how much more work we put into the house (gotta build a new fence), I imagine they will drop down, but stay in the top 10.
    2 DJ Tiësto (427)
Tiesto is one of the first Trance artists I ever heard. In fact, the In Search of Sunrise 3 album really peaked my interest in the Genre and lead to a lot of new band discoveries. …
