    Who cares if the band leader was a douche? This song is infectious as hell, and anyways, a number of people generally acknowledge Buddy Bolden to be the originator of jazz, although Morton apparently once said that Bolden played ragtime, not jazz. But Bolden was institutionalized for schizophrenia before the recording era came about, and died in 1934, and most of the people who heard him play are most likely either dead or senile. But I do love this song.

    So did Jelly Roll Morton - though he was a genuine creative artist. Accepting that the ODJB were derivative of other, greater talents, you can imagine the excitement when their music went global. This was a totally new sound and, to be fair, it stands up moderately well after all this time.

    cool song. Band leader was a total douche according to documentation...he tried to take credit for inventing Jazz.
