I find it amusing. Despite all this clone shit, I still prefer Nyktalgia to Burzum any day of the fucking week! :) Same goes for most bands listed in the 'Official Burzum Clones' list ... Sterbend, Wigrid and such. Burzum, to me, are highly overrated. I appreciate the influence the band had, but damn ... To me, Burzum only has six or so good songs, the rest are ... For lack of a better word ... Shite.

Show me the law book where it states that each and every musical release must blatantly be radically and fundamentally original from all that was released prior. Considering Nyktalgia's genre and what the genre owes to Burzum's influence you're really overstating your case Malvery, I get it, we all get it, you think Nyktalgia is straight outta Varg's cell. Seems to me you're just all too dismissive of any musical aspect remotely Burzum like in nature. Might as well stop listening to BM entirely while you're at it.

Malvery: "Obviously inspired by Burzum." Could you be any more vague? "Minimalistic and driving guitar riffs." So, the vast majority of black metal? I admit the vocals are similar, but calling the drumming clone-like? Give me a break. Black metal is minimal, that's a given. If you want to get specific in terms of the music, the selftitle's guitar lines are very dependent on open-string diads, shapes Varg did NOT use.

I find it humorous how many people honestly think the selftitle is a Burzum replica. To begin with, a deeper understanding of composition, especially the BLATANT distinctions between each band, refutes this petty claim.

I guess that's where our point of difference becomes apparent. Malvery, I've honestly grown to respect a great deal of what you have to say regarding the works of numerous BM artists that we share an interest in. However, when it comes to Nyktalgia, no matter how much I analyse and interpret Burzumic influence my overall impression and admiration of this particular project remains unchanged. I feel the debut was able to fundamentally construct from the building blocks of Burzum and transform such an influence into a more modernised work of art with more prominent depressive undertones. An ideal formula for myself. Maybe not so for yourself.

I'm really not interested as to what you liken or compare Nyktalgia with. My appreciation lies within the atmosphere and mood this project generates. As a huge Burzum fan I find it mountainously easy to distinguish the musical traits/outputs of both artists in question. There's a clear distinction between being a direct clone and embracing an influenced expansion on such a pioneering sound. Nyktalgia embodies nothing but the latter in my eyes.

Yes, enjoy what it has to offer, which is 4 reconstructed Watain songs for the sheepish black metal crowd.

I'll put aside vacantfatface's comment and repost a previous journal contribution regarding the second full length of my own. "I'll agree that the album doesn't quite match up to the debut but when you originally set the benchmark to such a mountainous standard with your first full length the blame is hard to place. It's best to enjoy what the second full length has to offer, which is 3 worthy tracks and add them to your own personal interpretation of Nyktalgia as a whole and eagerly await future releases."

Just shows that once a black metal band has made one great album it doesn't matter what load of crap is released afterwards, the fans will still eat it up regardless. *cough*forgotten tomb*cough*

No Colours is, like you said, a pile of wank. I once ordered Forgotten Woods' 'The Curse of Mankind' DLP and it took ~3 months to get here. When I received it, I emailed them, notifying them about the arrival and they replied with "wow". Jews. Anyways, AnUnholyVoid, do you (or anyone else) own a physic copy of it?

No Colours is a pile of wank. The site is full of speculation and nothing more. I read that the album was out on the 20th of May, which I assume it was. I can't stand it when people don't capitalise tags. :( The new album has a different sound, but I still like it immensely.

Agreed. It gets better each listen. Pavor Nocturnus takes a huge Strid '93-4 demo influence.

Peisithanatos is superior in terms of songwriting and overall diversity, but not as accessible.

...30 minutes songs of some other artists. but in this case I really cannot find anything good in it. but who knows, maybe im gonna change my opinion in the next few weeks after listening it more intensely...

the new album is a disappointment in my eyes, but I expected this long time ago after listening to the pre-released sample. the only song i like is nyktalgia, great melodie stuff, but i miss the agony. another aspect why i dont like this release is that i my opinion the songs are too long what makes them boring after a few listens. don't understand me wrong it's not just the lenght, i also like

It really has nothing to with it being generic actually, since I'm guilty of listening to a lot of generic artists, I'm just not a fan of this type of black metal.

thanks for the objective judgement... perhaps I'll agree with you, who knows, but something like that could be said about any band, band x is a generic y for the listeners of z and while to you it may be true, there is never a consensus. no point in discussion, especially if people involved have very different musical tastes..

It's generic melodic black metal for the most part. Pretty boring, but if you're a fan of Watain, I'd recommend it to you.

I haven't heard this yet and I'm probably going to try to resist doing so before I buy it but as far as riff discussion goes, I must say it seems kinda stupid.. so perhaps the album is less depressive, but that only makes the album NOT depressive bm, doesn't change the quality of the music.. and that's what people should really care for.. is the music good/bad, rather than whether it's genre A/B

Yeah, and that's what we listen to depressive black metal for. 'Awesome riffs'.
