Biografie

The remaster is good. The drums sound better and the keyboards sound awesome, specially in "Ukraine"

As the sound quality improves and the band turns towards more cerebral styles like prog rock, it casts their message in a different light. I can't escape the feeling on Voice of Steel that the band is trying to justify their shitty opinions instead of just rejecting reason and letting raw emotions reign. Something about the remaster numbs that feeling a bit. Maybe it IS bad, and that's why I like it more. I can't say exactly, but I think I can appreciate this album now on a level I was not able to before. (Oh hey, what's up Smekermann?)

Hmm... I really disliked Voice of Steel. I can't listen to this band and pretend Knjaz isn't an asshole, but that used to be essential to the sound. Their music invoked this violent yet vibrant folk tradition that totally rejected modern society, even to the extent of failing to acknowledge things like, uh, genocide is bad... Terrible sound quality catered to a vibe of uncompromising raw passion over the slightest hint of reason, while the beautiful, frantic folk melodies buried beneath it offered a glimpse into the past as only a band this rabid could imagine it. I can listen to The Call of the Aryan Spirit and feel for a moment totally immersed in their fascinating if dangerous world view. The far less openly hateful Україна from Voice of Steel leaves me a little sick in my stomach. It could be like, the anthem for some right-wing symposium on the genetic superiority of Ukrainians.

The title track sounds 8000 times better, but I'm not sure about the rest.

I'm not sure if I like it. It's clearly lacking in dynamics, but so was the original version. The original album was quieter, but it was still a brickwall.

The only proper fuckin metal remix I've heard is Demilich - 20th Anniversary of Emptiness, which makes Nespithe sound like an entirely new album, in a good way. Actually, Aspid - Extravasation should probably be up there, too. The rest of these fucken "remasters" I've heard have been a scam just to get people to buy the album twice.

new Voice of Steel remaster sounds like shit. it's overly loud, the dynamics are compressed to shit, the details are now pushed way back in favor of a more guitar-heavy sound (which I guess some people wanted? not sure what the fuck they were smoking). anyway, point is, it's really fucking clumsily done. you can never win with metal remasters - either they just turn the volume up and call it a remaster, or they get someone who has no idea how to remix/remaster an album and it comes out way worse than it sounded originally. and honestly, out of all their albums, Voice of Steel was the least of my concerns. it actually sounded really good on release. remix NeChrist or Blasphemous Fire or something. anyway, maybe I've just been spoiled by the remixes Steven Wilson has done for King Crimson, Yes, EL&P, etc. (and yes, before you rush - HEH GET IT, IT'S THE NAME OF THAT PROG BAND LOL - to point out, im gay)

While I find remastered "Voice of Steel" great at some points, cause I heard melodies/flutes/keyboards that you normally couldn't on original record, some parts feel a bit ruined, cause with the production increase, the black metal atmosphere touch is lost. "My Dream Islands" ending is the proof. But overall it's still great. I wish they had worked on new album more though.
