New York, Vereinigte Staaten (1997 – aktuell)

Mindless Self Indulgence (zu dt. etwa Sinnlose Genusssucht oder auch Unbekümmerte Maßlosigkeit) ist eine 1997 gegründete New Yorker Band, deren Einteilung in nur eine musikalische Schublade unmöglich ist. Sie selbst bezeichnen ihre Musik augenzwinkernd als „Industrial Jungle Pussy Punk“. Tatsächlich befinden sich in ziemlich allen Songs Elemente aus Electro, Rock, Hip Hop und Punk. Mit ihren exzentrischen Outfits und Frisuren und ihrem abgedrehten Stil sind Mindless Self Indulgence (kurz: MSI) eine extrem unkonventionelle Band.

Weitere Besonderheiten äußern sich in ihren Songs und Songtexten, welche sich ehemals fast vollständig aus ATARI-Sounds zusammensetzten (auf dem Album „Tight“) und auch heute noch oft in aktuellen Liedern vorkommen. Viele Songs behandeln oftmals das Thema Sex, insbesondere Homosexualität, und damit zusammenhängende Probleme in der Gesellschaft ziemlich direkt und auf äußerst explizite Art und Weise (wie z. B. in den Tracks „Faggot“, „Kill the Rock“, „Masturbates“ und „Last Gay Song“).

Auch die Stimme des Sängers James Euringer aka Jimmy Urine ist mehr als ausgefallen, da er eher platt und untypisch erscheint - was in seinem Liedstil jedoch stark zur Geltung kommt durch seinen elektronisch nicht bearbeiteten Gesang, der sich vom tiefsten Bass bis hin zum schrillsten Ton erstreckt. Er selbst fällt oft mit dem skurrilen Verhalten auf, die eigenen Fans in Songtexten zu diffamieren oder zum Nicht-Kauf seiner Alben aufzufordern.
