The very essence of my work is to transform jazz into contemporary art.

I started to develop my own music with albums like: “Langsames Blau“ (Enja - 1993), “Dry Red“ (Edition Collage - 1994), “Innocent Green“ (Enja - 1996); continuing with CD’s that incorporated electronic music, like “Asphalt“ (1999) and “Jazz On Mars“ (2001). I followed these efforts using mixtures of lounge music and jazz, with records like: “Westend“ (2006) and “Let It Go“ (Spice Records - 2006). All of these albums featured original compositions which i had created throughout the years.

Then, in 2006, I had the idea of combining electronic lounge music with jazz standards, which were to be played live by jazz players. In order to achieve more openness, while playing these songs, i decided to give up their normal chronological order. To create even more space in the songs, I invented a basic pattern for each song, which was recorded and used as a loop. This loop served as the basis for our improvisations on the standards.

Further on, we added some other electronic soundscapes to each song. One might now call our approach, “a non-linear, electro-acoustical improvisation on well-known jazz standards.” Or, to express it in a lyrical manner: „Summertime meets Bitches Brew.“ Amazingly, the original compositions disappear in the complex framework by arrangements and improvisations.
