Same deal with my 70s and 80s list, not a definitive best of, just good stuff. Again, good stuff cut, so no albums by Myra Melford, Gerry Hemingway, Chris Cheek, Michael Brecker, Danilo Perez, Marty Ehrlich, Butch Morris, Don Byron, Jon Jang, David Binney, Sam Rivers' Rivbea All-Star Orchestra, or The Vandermark 5. Also cut was the posthumous Charles Mingus Epitaph album, an over two hour work utilizing a 30-piece orchestra featuring Wynton Marsalis, John Abercrombie, George Adams, Randy Brecker, John Handy, and Bobby Watson, as well as Trey Anastasio's unusual one off side project Surrender to the Air, an avant-garde jazz group featuring Sun Ra alums Marshall Allen and Michael Ray, John Medeski from Medeski, Martin & Wood, and guitarist Marc Ribot, which is, obviously, much different from his better known jam-/folk-rock work with Phish and his solo albums.

Here's what I scrobbled (PC & iPod Shuffle) mostly since mid 2010 from my archives. This sample only partially represents my taste at this day. I have few hundred CD's with other than electronic music, but I mainly play them on my stereo . I discovered Last.fm in 2007 and been using the site for about a year and then I went on hiatus, in mid 2010 I decided to come back and made more than 8000 scrobbles in 6 months. Now I just 'milestoned' my library.

Tue 28 Jun – Medeski, Martin and Wood, Bill Evans

Some people complained that Medeski, Martin and Wood and the saxophonist Bill Evans played only endless jam sections that night, without a single famous song released by the jazz trio.

But the truth is that it was an amazing night with jams ranging from traditional jazz to bossa nova, or from Experimental to progressive rock songs. Not to mention the cake and the Brazilian pandeiro on stage due to John Medeski's birthday.

I'm definitely looking forward for their return to Brazilian lands!

I bought this album right after the phenomenal Whale Watching Tour (Ben Frost | Nico Muhly | Sam Amidon | Valgeir Sigurðsson with Una Sveinbjarnardóttir & Borgar Magnason) concert in Berlin.

Draumalandið is the soundtrack to an icelandic documentary about the exploitation of Iceland's natural resources of the same name.
Amongst others, the score features Valgeir's collaborators and Bedroom Community labelmates Ben Frost, Sam Amidon and Nico Muhly.
This leads to a very wide instrumentarium (for example, combining electronic sounds with hauting string sections and banjo) while still managing to keep a coherent overall sound.
