    Mon 21 Jun 2010 – Massive Attack
    That was so fucking awesome.

Sorry to everyone who was in the first line and had to endure my headbanging. Namely, the guy to my right side who didn't move a finger the whole concert (except when his jersey fell on the floor), and the guy to the left side, who was hitting on the girl immediately next to me on my left side, who seemed to enjoy the concert more than him and danced. (Seriously, he seemed to start moving only because he was jealous that she and I were dancing so much. Well, she was dancing, I headbanged myself into drunk-like state. Or maybe that was the passive weed smoking? I dunno.)

Martina Topley-Bird was a "warm-up" "band", but, needless to say, she was an event on its own.

I don't know her songs, so her setlist is a mystery to me, and I didn't tweet like a retard after every song, but I'm pretty sure this was our setlist (copy/pasted from somewhere):

    1. United Snakes
    2. Babel
    3. Risingson

  • La espera (pt. I)

Sat 20 Feb – Massive Attack @ Guadalajara

Edit this setlist | More Massive Attack setlists

    Cinco meses.

Hubiera. Bla bla.

Tue 20 Oct – Massive Attack, Martina Topley-Bird

    Flat of the Blade
    Hartcliffe Star
    Babel
    Girl I Love You
    Risingson
    Red Light Means Go
    Future Proof
    Mezzanine
    Teardrop
    Angel
    Psyche
    Safe From Harm
    Inertia Creeps

    Ekstranummer:
    Splitting the Atom
    Unfinished Sympathy
    Atlas Air

    Ekstranummer 2:
    Karmacoma

  • “Those Majestic City Lights” or…

    14. Jun. 2008, 2:55 von eyeofsaulot

Music Suitable to be the Soundtrack to a Downtown Area

With all of these “greatest *insert genre here*” lists being posted all over Last.fm, I thought I might try something a little different; something that would get people thinking about broadening their horizons, while still allowing them to hear the same kind of music they enjoy listening to, in terms of mood and tone.

These are all very atmospheric albums that convey to their listeners the imagery of a city – more particularly, the downtown area of a dirty city after dusk – whether the lyrics actually reflect that imagery or not. These albums will instill a sense of darkness, pity, and paranoia amongst a multitude of other rather uncomfortable feelings but despite the unpleasant feelings, you’ll find yourself answering the beckon call of those majestic city lights off in the distance…

You peer into the windows of 24-hour coffee shops full of hip, artsy college kids reading poetry, convincing themselves that they know the meaning of life. …

  • Man, I like Mezzanine too much...

    21. Mär. 2008, 19:11 von Eihwaz0

So, Massive Attack are my top 10th listened band (tied with New Order), and I feel weirdly obliged to say that this is almost solely due to one album: Mezzanine.

Now, this isn't to say I dislike their other albums. Blue Lines is a really solid album, and 100th Window has a couple of especially good tracks, like Future Proof, Small Time Shot Away, and Antistar. I never really liked Protection that much, as it feels like an inferior clone of Blue Lines.

But when I feel the need to crank up some Massive Attack, I always just turn to Mezzanine. Something about it appeals to me immensely. Is it the dark, fractured guitars that pop on several tracks? Is it the rather dark and sexy vibe the album has overall? Maybe it's the fact it starts with one hell of a one-two-three-four punch with Angel, Risingson, Teardrop, and Inertia Creeps: after those four standouts, the album continues to be seductive and alluring.

This is but one symptom of the fact that I need some more "trip-hop" in my library. …
