This year saw the return of the Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig for the 20th time and it was celebrated in style. Not only had it been extended to five days, beginning on Thursday the 9th June with a reunion concert presenting all those acts - or their successors respectively - who performed at the very first WGT back in 1992, including AGE OF HEAVEN, LOVE LIKE BLOOD, THE ETERNAL AFFLICT, and DAS ICH. The organisers also managed to pull in some of the best-known bands, godmothers, and godfathers of an extremely diverse scene collectively called gothic. The line-up included DEINE LAKAIEN, UMBRA ET IMAGO, DIAMANDA GALAS, CLOCK DVA, CHRIS & COSEY (of Throbbing Gristle fame), LUSTMORD, KILLING JOKE, NITZER EBB, FRONT 242, DIVE, RECOIL (aka Alan Wilder, ex-member of Depeche Mode), FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM, IN THE NURSERY, THE LEGENDARY PINK DOTS, CAMOUFLAGE, TIAMAT, and many more. This year has been incredibly rich in great music (though there were quite a lot of disappointments as well of course, but I won't list those). So without any further ado, in ascending order of my preference:

Lustmord - Songs of Gods and Demons
„Permafrost“ erinnert an SPKs „In Flagrante Delicto“.
„Vault“ wurde 2001 für eine Fernsehsendung komponiert, und wabert tief dunkel.
Auch die Live Umsetzung seiner Klänge ist außerordentlich beeindruckend.
Wer nicht die Gelegenheit hatte, ihn auf dem WGT im Volkspalast zu sehen,
hat nochmals die Chance am 02. Oktober auf dem Maschinenfest in
Oberhausen.

Beithíoch: New album Dúchas - download for free
17. Sep. 2011, 12:27 von hiarctow
http://hiarctow.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/duchas1.jpg
The long awaited new album from Irish black metallers Beithíoch, is available now - complete and free - from hiarctow.com. "Dúchas" translates roughly to "instinct", or "that which is native", and is inspired by the glacier-torn landscape of Ireland's north.
Stylistically this album throws up a few surprises: much of it moves away from the droney, minimalist style of the debut album (and subsequent EP) towards a sound that has more melodic intricacies and more subtleties in the arrangements. At times this album flirts with an old school doom/death sound whilst at other moments hearkens more to early Gorgoroth, Ancient or Immortal. More importantly though, this album is a serious challenge to the staleness and mediocrity of modern metal.

Cryosyncopy - download new album Black Ocean free
29. Apr. 2011, 0:10 von hiarctow
http://hiarctow.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/blackocean.jpg
Cryosyncopy is back with a new album, the first in two years for the project. Black Ocean combines the moody, spacious, picturesque sound of debut album Recollection of Lost Fragments with the gritty cyberpunk beats and structures of side project Mushin. The effect is like listening to the sinister, technology pervaded world of William Gibson's Neuromancer novel.

ELEVENELEVEN :: 34 SECRET KILLER OF NAMES

Since the age of 12 i’ve been fascinated by Horror films though it was not until I started making music/sound art that I realised why. I am not overly impressed by the gore and misogyny/misanthropy so much as I am drawn to the soundtracks of horror and terror, which inspire an almost metaphysical reverie.
Between the years 1999-2007 I produced a number of experimental radio shows on 4ZZZ 102.1FM in Brisbane. In order to avoid the monotony of bland DJ tracklist reproduction I would often use my laptop and Audiomulch software to mix and mash tracks with a variety of sound effect cds.
Having collected the results it became clear to me that my manipulations and choices were working perpetually towards a form of plotless abstract horror soundscape. Here then is a directors cut of sorts, newly remixed to form an almost seamless scape of ancient mysteries and unknowable terror.
