Biografie

Lone (Matt Cutler) is a British electronic musician from Nottingham, United Kingdom. Lone has released four full length albums, Everything is Changing Colour in 2007, the critically acclaimed Lemurian in 2008, Ecstasy and Friends in 2009 and Emerald Fantasy Tracks in 2010. He also has released four EPs titled Cluster Dreams, Joyreel/Sunset Teens, Pineapple Crush/Angel Brain - EP and Once In a While/Raptured - EP, released in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

Lone has been quoted as saying that the greatest influences on his music are artists such as Boards of Canada and Madlib. He also says that fellow British musicians Keaver and Brause and Bibio have had an effect on the way he makes his music.

Lone’s 2008 release Lemurian is his most critically acclaimed release to date, receiving compliments from critics and even a few musicians as well. British electronic musician Bibio has been quoted saying,

„Lone has something that I think is very healthy for an artist to have in this age of Myspace music and the vast array of underground labels, and that’s a strong identity - I could spot a Lone track by hearing one or two bars, he has a personality in his music that is vivid. I reckon that Lemurian could provoke synaesthetic reactions in those who don’t already have the condition, that is, its character seems to extend beyond the sonic domain into some other sensual domain.“

    Yo, his entire album "Everything Is Changing Colour" fits really well with IDM/ambient hip-hop/minimal electronic stuff for playlists and mixes. Synths have a nice BoC-ish drone. Really different from his current releases too.

    Galaxy Garden is great, I love Emerald Fantasy Tracks and Ecstasy and Friends. Maybe it's rose tinted glasses, but I keep going back to Lemurian (and Sing a New Sapling Into Existence) again and again. It just fills this musical craving that nothing else can do for me. Whether I am feeling laid back or getting pumped to do some work, they always get me in the right mood.

    Emerald Fantasy Tracks and Echolocations were both really good (Moon Beam Harp might be my favourite track of him forever, that vox-like pad gets me every time) and I feel like Galaxy Garden is like the culmination of what he was doing on those releases. Heavy Mario Kart vibes sometimes but that's half the greatness of it.
