Ladytron has just released a DVD of their set recorded live At The London Astoria 16.07.08. The item description says this:

"Originally pressed as a one-time 1000 copy run in a simple cardboard slipcase for sales off the stage, the band have now agreed to a legitimate digipack reissue of this, their only authentic live release."

For someone like myself who has seen them in London, and in Montreal a mere two weeks before this set, this is really meaningful. If you saw Ladytron on their Velocifero tour, this sounds like something to look into. The tracklisting is as follows, if you forgot it or missed them on that tour:

Mon 20 Oct – Ladytron

When I walked past a couple of people hanging out outside of the Lucerna Music Bar, my first thought was "Oh crap, do these freaks listen to the same music as I do? Ewww." - but once I was in, I've realized that I wasn't dressed too well for the occasion. Which seemed to be a social event for quite a lot of people, but it seemed that most of the people were there for the music.

My ticket says that the Ladytron starts at 9PM, so I got freaked when I arrived at quarter past eight and noticed a paper on the door saying Ladytron starts at 8. I freaked out and rushed in, to be welcome by a Crystal Castles' song, followed by a MGMT song, which kinda calmed me down. It turned out to be some local DJs called the Fakes. It turned out that Ladytron actually stars only at 9:30PM.

So yes, being a Ladytron fan, it is time to put their newest offering to the test.

Mid may, I got surprised with Velocifero. So, what were my expectations for this album?

I went into this expecting at least something on par with Witching Hour. And I'm happy that Ladytron has made a very worthy successor to Witching Hour.

So let's do the single-song breakdown.


Black Cat - This song takes about a minute to kick in, and a bit longer for the singing to kick in. The interesting part comes at that point. Ladytron isn't singing this song in english. It still manages to come off as a good song, however, but not the best of the album in my opinion.


Ghosts - I didn't like this song for it's rhythm, but rather, the lyrics and the singing. It sounds quite phenomenal. Or maybe the rhythm is taking a bit to grow on me. This song pretty much maintains consistency throughout the track.


I'm Not Scared - Loved this track because it's fast and furious, and the singing is pretty good. …

Tue 3 Jun – Ladytron

Ladytron delivered a good mix of their new album, Velocifero, as well as their older albums: Light & Magic, Witching Hour, and 604. Opening for them was Datarock.

I have to give it to Datarock. Not only did the matching red hoodie jumpsuits give them an 80's feel, they paid a complete homage to the 80's; hell, they even had video clips of Molly Ringwald up on the screen. Great opener, and definitely a group I'll be listening to in the near future.

Let's see.... Ladytron did at least the following tracks off their new album:

Black Cat, Ghosts, Runaway, Season of Illusions, Burning Up, Kletva, and Deep Blue.

More than half of their new album was on the set list last night! The finale was Destroy Everything You Touch, as expected. I tend to think of that as their marquee song from Witching Hour. Great show.
