If they consider them influences, then they're definitely heads above shoulders above them :0 I do kind of hear an old PJ Harvey release in Korouva but I can't remember which one. Barring that Dino Jr song I mentioned earlier, Velvet Cacoon's atmosphere was actually the closest thing to Korouva I've heard, so it made sense that they tried to pass off Korouva's work as their own.
No, I agree. I'm sure there's something out there that can be at least semi-adequately compared to Korouva but I don't think any one's really found it yet. About the only thing we have left is stitching up a composite comparison made of several artists of which Cat Power would be included. And Miranda Sex Garden, and PJ Harvey and maybe Eva O or something. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Korouva is prett-y unique.
It's been a long time since I heard Cat Power, almost 10 years? But unless they've notched up the darkness and atmosphere hard since then, I don't think it's too accurate a comparison. I mean, if you sum up all individual elements of each's music, then yeah, they're similar. But in practice, the vibes are just so different. The closest thing I can think of is 'Poledo' by Dinosaur Jr off of 'You're Living All Over Me'.
