Kela has a huge live reputation. He has performed at all the major European festivals from Glastonbury to the Sonar festival in Barcelona; completed 3 solo pan-European tours taking in almost every major European country; he has performed regularly and gained a big reputation all over Canada, as well as in Hong Kong and Asia; he has supported major UK acts such as Super Furry Animals, Stereo MCs and The Streets and recently toured with Public Enemy. Kela also recently did an exclusive live session on Radio One alongside Pharrel Williams of The Neptunes and N*E*R*D.
Later this year sees Kela support Redman and Eric Sermon in London as well as a performance at the Isle of MTV event in the South of France – alongside the likes of Outkast, Kela’s performance will be beamed to over 200 million homes worldwide.
2002 saw the independent release of Kela’s mini-album “The Permanent Marker” on Jazz Fudge Recordings. But work is well on the way in 2003 building tracks towards a major album project - set for the end of this year. It sees Kela working with a whole array of different artists – from Neneh Cherry, Stereo MCs, Finley Quaye, JD (Lisa Maffia + SoSolid producer), Artful Dodger, Sweetie Irie, Fusion, Dave Elliot (Deon Warwick’s son) and several leading Drum & Bass producers. Although steeped in Hip-Hop tradition, Kela’s aim is to broaden beatboxing (or multi-vocalism as he prefers to call it) into new areas of music – to take the basic art of making music with your mouth and use it in ways and in areas it’s never been taken before.
