he wanted more mainstream appeal so he made this album. Good thing he used the success for 808, MBDTF and Yeezus.

Calling this the best Kanye album is like calling Skyward Sword the best Zelda game, it's just wrong.

Jay-Z's performances are lazy and I could say the same for some of the production but the album, as a whole, is sequenced well and all the tracks are coupled together perfectly according to tone and theme. It follows the neat and tidy template of The Blueprint (and to a lesser extent The Black Album) in all but song quality... if all of the existing songs were simply improved (especially Dre's late album contributions) then Kingdom Come would be almost perfect. If it's an album of two halves, then both halves make sense. The second part of the album (minus the singles-in-waiting (Anything and Hollywood)) is clearly deliberately designed as a more sober contrast to the euphoria and nostalgia that a comeback brings and essentially details what Jay-Z got up to between 03-06. Trouble and Dig A Hole obviously pale in comparison to Renegade or Lucifer however...

The songs on Graduation are more consistently strong than the ones on the first two albums. They have a more polished, widescreen epic feel. They're much more spacious than before, yet the album isn't overlong as its predecessors. It's simply the best of the three. Also, Kingdom Come isn't a well-put together album at all... That album is clearly an album of two halves, with each half lazily slapped together.

Also, I'm not just looking as Graduation as an exceptional pop rap album. I see the nuances.

I think we can all agree that Graduation is more thematically accomplished than its predecessors and a step forward for Kanye as far as organizing/sequencing goes - regardless as to whether or not the titles of his first two albums are to be taken as literally.

"Raw" isn't necessarily disciplined. As a matter of fact, I think most people would tend to associate the word raw with something conspicuously UNDISCPLINED more often than not. I think the production on TCD and LR has a deliberately loose and unfinished feel - it fits well with the autobiographical prose and nostalgic undercurrent. The College Dropout and Late Registration quite simply have better songs than Graduation and there's a fantastic, almost dizzying, topical flair on display, despite the sprawl/spillover. I don't think Graduation is better than debut and sophomore by virtue of being less flawed/more focused. There's such a thing as a well put together album that falls a bit flat - Jay-Z's Kingdom Come for instance. Graduation is, however, a fantastic addition to his discography and is perhaps slightly underrated by some. As far as which albums are better than which, let's please just agree to disagree. All three albums have their strongpoints.

I really loved this album. Still one of my faves from him. It shows his more eclectic side. Drunk & Hot Girls is still a flawless joint!

it is indeed a very ambitious record; however, it also has a sense of fulfillment that's very touching.

    What is "brilliantly ambitious?"

I can see why people love this but I can't help thinking it's his worst solo album, there are some great moments like I Wonder and Flashing Lights but I can't get into the mood of some of the others, anyway, having this brilliantly ambitious pop album as my least favourite out of the 6 is pretty impressive on his part

I agree that Graduation is leaner because of less skits and stuff, but not more cohesive. They're all pretty cohesive in their own right I think.

This is not a retread by any means. It reins in all of the excess from the previous albums making for a much leaner, concise and focused presentation. Unlike The College Dropout and Late Registration, Graduation is COHESIVE, the production is absolutely top-notch. Ahead of its time even. No hip-hop album in 2007 sounded like this. The first two albums aren't raw as they are undisciplined.
