which one is the better album, unknown pleasures or closer?

    Juni 2008
  • bodysnatcher4

i agree, i'd rather listen to a unique, passionate and original singer than someone who was just technically good.

    Juni 2008
  • Pogofied

dinah cancer's voice is terrible, not ian's. he's absolutely remarkable and manages to shove in so much emotion into his singing and lyrics, this is why joy division is just UP THEREEEEEEE.

    Juni 2008
  • gesebbage

"ian wasn't a very good singer". you obviously don't recognise great singing when you hear it then.

    Juni 2008
  • ahleec

Just saw "Control". So, so good...beautifully filmed.

    Juni 2008
  • anek_anek

Ok, "the classical restrictive sense". This is what gets on my nerves.

    Juni 2008
  • anek_anek

And about that ape thing, no, humans are not subspecie of apes, humans and apes are subspecies of mammals. Post-punk is punk, hardcore is punk, powerviolence is punk, screamo is punk in a sense of punk as a superordinate term. And then there is just punk, in the classical restrictive sense of meaning. So you have punk on the same level as apes and same level as mammals. Tags are not completely accurate and the time prefixes were imposed in improper ways. Tags are not science. Evolution is. Comparing these two does not seem right to me.

    Juni 2008
  • anek_anek

In other words, it's not about tags, because one tag is not enough, so another tag must be used. So, if post-punk is not punk, does it mean as well punk is not rock? I wanted to appreciate the band's uniqness and complexity by not discussing petty formal labeling, but you are right, we will appreciate Joy Division only by calling it the very right way (not that I argue it is not post-punk).

It's a close race between Transmission and Disorder. Come on Disorder, you can do it!

    Juni 2008
  • Mannequentin

tags are only for gays, no need to argue :P

    Juni 2008
  • anek_anek

to me, post-punk is subgenre of punk (just as punk is subgenre of rock). and no more of tags, please, not again, not here!

    YO DUDES

    Juni 2008
  • tevesy

The thing about his voice is stupid. Hardly any people in rock, punk, post punk w/e bands are actually really good singers it's not important at all. Without his voice their sound would be completely different and nowhere near as good.

    Juni 2008
  • otchkies

read J.G. Ballard (the atrocity exhibition, crash) another influence on ian

    Juni 2008
  • anek_anek

Discussing singing imperfections of a punk rock singer equals total misunderstandment of the genre. Perfection kills passion.

    Juni 2008
  • Jossif

Some people can be so stupid. no explanation needed

    Juni 2008

this band is f***ing disturbing. They sound like the Smiths if Morrisey was paranoid.

what about ian's voice.. it's great

    Juni 2008
  • ImACultHero81

Ok, THAT I can understand, I listen to them live (bootlegs) more than I would the studio albums. I guess it might be a bit difficult to get so worked up and visceral in a studio environment rather than live.

    Juni 2008
  • ImACultHero81

I don't understand the criticism of Ian's voice at all. Not perfect? In what way? What exactly is the perfect voice? Ian had a distinctive voice, it seems to be a running theme in bands that are important.

    Juni 2008
  • In_Consonance

i give his singing voice post-1978 a 5.8/10. but once i read his lyrics and got a hearing aid, it got a 2.4/10, lol

    Juni 2008
  • sputttnik

fuck off, his voice WAS and IS perfect.. buy a hearing aid.

I see people whining about the "gothic" tag. Get over it, Joy Divison were the first band to ever have the term "Gothic" used to describe their sound, they were essentially inventors of the gothic scene. Just because you don't like it, doesn't alter the facts. The tag is accurate. "Punk" on the other hand.....

    Juni 2008
  • In_Consonance

lol u guys are almost as worst as velvet underground fans. of course im kidding, i like this band :p

Joy Division måste va tidernas bästa band ^^ R.I.P Ian Curtis Men seriöst varför och vem har taggat dom som gothic, det är ju postpunk och inget annat? O.o :3

    goth? come on

    Juni 2008
  • Mannequentin

I agree. Ian Curtis is a total con artist.

    Juni 2008
  • In_Consonance

god, i would like this band so much more if they didn't copy interpol so much and at least tried sounding less like new order

    Mai 2008
  • bodysnatcher4

i agree dundee12. they travelled forwards in time, took all of interpols song sheets back with them and passed the stuff off as their own.

    Mai 2008
