• On the Magic of Movie Music

Let us take a small, quiet moment in our busy lives and consider soundtracks. I just love ‘em; don’t you? And I do not mean those song compilations (which I consider marketing scams), but the real symphonic accompaniment to motion pictures.

Whenever I watch a new movie, a small piece of my brain stands on the alert for a memorable piece of new music. Sometimes I keep whistling a melody when I walk out of the cinema and it just wont go away. Often, when I step on my bike or on the train I choose a melody in my internal jukebox and let it enlighten my trip. It is an important part of my life.

Ok, enough about me. Let’s talk about some composers and their work. I do have some favourite composers and favourite pieces of music (who doesn’t?) but pointing out definitive favourites on some objective scale is always hard—indeed perhaps impossible, so let me just say that I will not make a list of best composers or best cues (this time, that is), but just talk of their wonders.
