Biografie

New York, Vereinigte Staaten (1992 – aktuell)

John Anthony Frusciante (* 5.

I don't think he's thinking enough about textures in his new music... one thing that his influences do so well (Aphex Twin, 2000s Radiohead, Autechre) is to create a musical world and language out of texture. John uses the same setup for every track: drum machine, guitar and 1/2 synths. This same set of textures and timbres gets old quick. It doesn't matter how many unusual song forms he uses or weird time signatures and odd bars, there's no getting away from the fact that he's not properly engaging with the genre in which he's looking to operate within. Someone give the man a Flying Lotus or Four Tet album.

The newest stuff is very hit and miss, but Bike is an incredible track. I would like to see this stuff played live.

This is not about being into a wide range of ranges. There's nothing "not to get" about Enclosure. It is not anything profound or special, it is just a plain bad record that absolutely fails at what it tries to achieve. It seems John is enclosed in his fantasies of grandeur these days. Sad to see such a creative person to be so disillusioned.

I haven't even heard his new material, and all I know is its far more inventive and rewarding than what the Chilli Peppers are playing.

Thankfully I'm into a wide range of genres, Because I guess I'm in the minority of people that actually enjoys his latest offerings. Confining yourself to certain styles will only limit your appreciation of other music choices. Yes, John's early work may have been wonderful and brilliant (The Empyrean is still my favorite album by him), but it doesn't mean that his new material sucks. It's just different. And quite frankly if you don't like it, don't listen to it. Pretty simple. [2]

Also, please stop joking around with comparing Frusciante to Schaeffer...

I doubt it. It may rather be another tasteless, uneventful record.

He doesn't wanna pull the same shit over and over again, guys, okay? Besides, he said Enclosure is his last word on "the musical statement" he began with on PBX. Who knows what we'll get next? Straight-forward funk-punk, avant garde, dubstep, hip-hop, smooth jazz, the sound of him wanking, we could get anything!

"PBX" is amazing. May not be as much cohesive "Enclosure" was, but it still an top-notch breakcore production. What I always saw is people talking bullshit and don't even knows what the hell are the IDM and experimental crew Frusciante was forever inspired, like Aphex Twin (which he states is the best thing ever), Venetian Snares and Fennesz, and wants to stick him to do the same singer-songwriter stuff over, and over, and over. C'mon, he's a musician. He's free to do whatever he wants, and not to make music to please all of you. Still, if you're not happy with the albums, I suggest you to listen to the IDM stuff, like AFX, VSnares, Autechre and notice how elements of these guys are everywhere on his new stuff. Some musique concrete, like Schaeffer and Parmegiani. Understanding this, maybe, you'll understand these albums too. Just get used to it and adapt or shut up and go listen to his old stuff².
