The Rolling Stones, billed as "The Rollin' Stones," played their first gig at London's Marquee Club 45 years ago tonight.
This was the first song the Rolling Stones ever played on stage, unless you argue for the somewhat popular school of thought that any incarnation of just Mick and Keef qualifies as a performance of the Stones, in which case the first song they ever played on stage together was Chuck Berry's Around and Around. The incarnation on stage on 12 July 1962:
Mick Jagger (vocals)
Keith Richards (guitar)
Brian Jones (guitar)
Ian Stewart (piano)
Dick Taylor (bass)
Tony Chapman (drums) - some conflicts about drums were handled by Tony or Mick Avory…
