This event was held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of UK jazz label Dune and was part of this years London Jazz Festival.
The evening started off with New Orleans trumpeter Abram Wilson paying tribute the Fisk Jubilee Singers, a group of freed slaves from Tennessee who were the first African American singers to be heard in the UK. Abram was backed by the excellent London Community Gospel Choir. The combination of Wilson's New Orleans style sound worked well the soaring gospel of the LCGC.
The second part of the show called Tighten Up! featured Jazz Jamaica playing tribute to the legendary reggae label Trojan records. Along with Jamaican guitarist Ernest Ranglin they delivered an excellent fusion of jazz, reggae & ska which had the sell-out audience dancing on their feet and no doubt bought back memories of those classic reggae tracks from the late 60s/early 70s.
A great uplifting musical evening.
