A for effort. A for having the balls to cover The Gun Club.

love the song, but I agree in that it doesn't fit in with the rest of the album.

From a lyrical/thematic viewpoint, Younger Us fits in with the album a hundred times better than For the Love of Ivy does despite, yes, being 2 years old. I guess this song just doesn't sound terribly Japandroidsy even with their usual enthusiasm and barrage of noise; and it's not even a simplicity issue, it's more of a chord progression thing. Their mclusky cover on All Lies even sounded Japandroidsified, but this one just won't fit in no matter how hard I try to shove this square peg into the triangular hole that is Celebration Rock.

So much hate. I don't get why people are complaining about "pointless loudness" and "lack of simplicity". 1. This song is very simple. 2. It's mother-fucking Japandroids. Their supposed to be loud and energetic like this. I guess I can see the "not fitting in" complaint, but I don't see this many complaints with Younger Us which is just as different from the rest of the album. It was recorded 2 years ago and is the most pop sounding thing they've ever done.

Glad to see everyone else dislikes this. Doesn't fit quite right with the rest of the album. 4.5/5 but could have been the first 5 of the year if this was replaced with something awesome.

I'd say this is the only thing that keep Celebration Rock from near-perfection. I can see why they did it what with Fire of Love being a huge favorite of Brian's and all, but I'd much rather have seen their original songwriting given another chance to shine.

Personally I'd rather hear them do "Blood City", it'd go perfectly with the sped-up, distorted vibe of their "Ivy" cover. "Brother & Sister" could be interesting too...

that's fine in my opinion. japandroids are based off of simplicity. a short album is just a product of that methodology. seriously, the song doesn't work with the rest of the album.

@EdgeLike: Man the album is 30 minutes long as it is, EP length in my opinion, any shorter and it'd be half of an album.

this is the one song on the album that really doesn't fit in so to speak. in fact, if it weren't here, the album would be perfect.

meh. the beauty of the original is in the dynamics, the way it drops out to almost nothing and kicks back in at full force, over and over. this is just the same song played loud throughout. not terrible but it just feels lazy.

That said, everyone who digs the records should see them live if possible. Japandroids are one of the few remaining bands that can really stir up some shit in that type of environment. And trust me, it'll be LOUD. I'm talking ear-splitting, Hüsker levels of sheer noise. The songs are less about the performance caught on tape at one point, and focus more on relating the skeletal frame of the composition itself with the particular moment in time it is being played - accordingly, overdriven vocal banter, feedback, and simultaneously crushing and beautiful unreleased miniature jams are the name of the game in between. And as I said, no two have been alike so far, so there's no excuse to miss them just because one has experienced them prior.
